Plainville, MA — Last weekend the drivers at Plainridge Racecourse laid down the gauntlet. After taking the Ice Bucket Challenge to benefit ALS research, the local reinsmen challenged their overseers to do the same.
Following the races Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 20), the Plainridge officials answered the call, as a half dozen of them stood in the winner’s circle and took the challenge. From the crows nest Judges Tony Salerno, Bob Coberley and Sal Panzera, along with Charter Annmarie Mancini, were joined by Starter Rick Flanders and Paddock Judge Chip Brewster. A handful of horsemen were more than happy to assist in the dousing.
Having responded themselves, the Plainridge officials have now extended the challenge to their colleagues throughout the New England harness racing industry to step up to the plate and take the challenge.
