Pompano a “go” for Monday program

Pompano Beach, FL — After Pompano Park’s scheduled season kickoff was cancelled for Sunday due to Tropical Storm Eta, Pompano Park’s Director of Racing, Gabe Prewitt, has announced that Monday (Nov. 9) is a “go” as the track begins its 57th season.

Highlighting the 11-race pari-mutuel program is the Open Handicap Trot featuring a full field of eight, including Sooo Handsome, The Lionking AS, Explosivebreakaway and Beguin Dugoutier F.

Sooo Handsome, a 7-year-old gelded son of Cash Hall, has 41 career wins to go along with a 1:52.4 mark at Hoosier Park. Trainer Rick Plano will be in the bike for Maryann Plano and Sooo Handsome will begin his journey from post three.

The Lionking AS and Explosivebreakaway are on the cusp of an earnings milestone with a win while Beguin Dugoutier F will be just $2 shy of $200,000 in career bounty if he can reach the winner’s circle.

Prior to the wagering card, the FSBOA sponsored Sunshine State Stakes will be contested for 3-year-olds in four non-betting events.

Highlighting those events are two 2019 Super Night Champions at Pompano Park, Laurie Lee and Rhinestone Cowboy.

Laurie Lee, a daughter of Royel Millennium, will face three rivals in the filly pace for trainer Kim Sears, who co-owns with Richard Dunmire. Wally Hennessey will be in her sulky,

Rhinestone Cowboy, an altered son of Proud Bushy, is also trained by Kim Sears as co-owner with John Campagnuolo. Mike Micallef will sit behind the gelding.

In addition to the already wide selection of wagering options, the track is also offering a Late Pick-3 covering races nine through 11.

Post time is set for 7:20 p.m. with the non-wagering events to be held at 6 p.m.
