Pompano cancels Wednesday program

Pompano Beach, FL — Due to heavy rains in South Florida over the past 24 hours, racing was cancelled at The Isle Pompano Park for Wednesday evening, November 25.

“The track needs grading and the weather radar was showing no chance for that until after 9:30 p.m.,” says Director Of Racing Operations John Yinger. “It’s an unfortunate thing that we have no control over. The rain actually started overnight last night and it’s been very heavy at times right up until we made the decision to cancel just before 6 p.m.”

The weather cancellation also meant that a pair of important races in the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association stakes series for 2-year-old filly trotters were called off. Freshman filly trotter Pocohontas Fame is still eligible for a share of the $100,000 FSBOA bonus offered to any rookie performer able to sweep the State bred program’s four major Fall stakes.

“We’ll consult with the FSBOA on Thursday and those races will be re-scheduled for Saturday evening,” Yinger adds. “They’ll be staged at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening before the regular program and before the other FSBOA Breeders Stakes at 6:30 p.m. that have already been drawn.”

Live action at The Isle Pompano Park will resume on Friday evening, November 27, at 6:30 p.m. with the FSBOA Breeders Stakes eliminations for 2-year-old pacing fillies. In this category, Black Diamond Girl is eligible for a share of the $100,000 bonus. The Friday evening card also features $13,000 purses for the Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace and the Open Handicap Trot.
