Pompano offers carryovers and Panocchio’s bid for 50th win on Sunday card

by John Berry, for Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Yes, it is cold in South Florida, too, but things will heat up rapidly as Pompano Park offers its Sunday night (Jan. 8) 12-race program featuring four carryovers–the Pick-4, Pick-5, Pick-6 and Super Hi-5, the latter carryover just shy of $10,000.

In addition, Pompano Park will offer its highest guaranteed pool ever on the Pick-4–$20,000. The Pick-4 covers races six through nine and features a meager takeout of 12 percent, among the lowest in racing.

Gabe Prewitt, Director of Racing Operations at the South Florida oval, said, “We have had a wonderful response to this particular offering and it is time to offer our patrons a pool that they can sink their teeth into. As we stress here at our track, ‘it’s better for the bettor!”

The racing program itself, sports some serious horse power too, as Panocchio, a winner of seven of his eight Pompano Park this season, is back in action in the $12,000 Open Handicap Pace.

The 7-year-old son of No Pan Intended is seeking his 50th career win against the likes of Fritzie Pic Up Man, Whogoesfirst, Bluehourpower, Duc Dorleans and No Bad Dreams.

Trained by Jim Mattison, who co-owns with Emile Johnson, Jr., Panocchio went over the $400,000 in career bounty in his last start.

Post time for the sizzling Sunday card is 7:20 p.m.
