Pompano Beach, Florida – December 29, 2005 – Pompano Park Harness Track will again host the horse racing world’s only Midnight Mile on New Year’s Eve Saturday.

The 7th edition of the special race will span two years, going off right before midnight at 11:59 pm in 2005 and ending after midnight in 2006.

Driver George Napolitano, Jr. will try for his third victory in the Midnight Mile. He starts from post three with Cambotonian, the 7/2 second choice in the morning line and is the only repeat winner in the field. Last week Cambotonian led from start to finish in this same class, winning by one length in 1:57.3 for his 7th win this year. Napolitano won the Midnight Mile in 2001 with Radar Hanover (1:59) and in 2004, setting the stakes record of 1:57.1 with Doc’s Able.

The 5/2 morning line favorite is Weathers Wet from post six for driver Anthony Napolitano, George’s younger brother. Weathers Wet has four wins this year and two starts back won in 1:55.4 and last week was second by a head in 1:55.2. Third choice in the race is Tammys Tommy (post 2) at odds of 9/2 for driver Bruce Ranger, who has never won the Midnight Mile.

Friday’s program features aged mares taking on three-year-old fillies in the 6th race $9,000 featured Open Pace. The two fillies, Venus Blue Chip (post 6) and Sanfandango (post 8) are both stakes winners this year and are coming off impressive victories in their last start.

But the opposition is no cakewalk as Race Me Valerie (post 2) is the 5/2 favorite and rightly so for driver Kevin Wallis. The four-year-old mare has had a sensational season with 13 wins to lead the field. Also entered is eight-time winner, Tasma Walton A (post 1) and track record holder Kadijah (post 7).
