Pompano Park stall apps getting big response

by John Berry for Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — With a ‘Superfecta’ of a ‘bump’ in purses, reduced stall rent, a strong late-closing program and the always beautiful weather, Pompano Park is experiencing a surge in stall applications for its upcoming 50th anniversary meeting.

John Yinger, Director of Racing, said, “With all of the positive things going on, stall applications have been coming in at a very brisk pace–well ahead of last year–and we expect to have a ‘full house’ when the meet opens.”

Pari-mutuel racing returns to the five-eighths mile oval on October 5 with a special non-wagering program highlighting Florida’s Sunshine Stakes for “state-breds” one week earlier, September 28.

Stall applications are due no later than September 10 for the meeting, which goes through May 17, 2014.

Yinger continued, “With stall rent reduced to $100 per month–including yearlings–this will give horsemen and women a good chance to earn some purse money without the stress of a steep rental bill staring them right in the eye at the start. In fact, all of these new programs should have a very positive impact for our owners and trainers.

“In addition, Racing Secretary Greg DeFrank is putting the finishing touches on several late closing events encompassing several classes from claiming to condition events.”

Details of the late closing program should be available within the next few days.
