Pompano to host Roosevelt Raceway reunion race

Pompano Beach, FL — Organizers of the Roosevelt Raceway reunion in Florida (Randy Perry, Fred Hudson, Lucien Fontaine and Judy Bokman of the Standardbred Retirement Foundation) announced that Pompano Park is going to stage a reunion race to coincide with the reunion party.

Lucien Fontaine met with the management of Pompano Park and worked out the details of the race, which will be held on the eve of the Roosevelt Raceway reunion party on Feb. 20. The reunion party will be held at the Marriott North in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 21, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Drivers that have expressed interest in participating in the race include Teddy Wing, Eddie Lohmeyer, Frank Tageriello, Tom Merriman, Billy Popfinger and Benny Steall.

Other driver/trainers that will be on hand along with Fontaine include Mike Lachance, Randy Perry, Carmine Abbatiello, Buddy Reagan, Bobby Hiel, Ron Gurfein, Micky McNichol, Joe Faraldo, Freddy Hudson, Jean Drolet, Mike Santa Maria, Benny Defonce, Paul Appel, Jim Champion, Ann Schlichtig, Jeff Hoffman, Skip Lewis, and many more.

Drivers and trainers will be trackside for autograph signing and photos, along with the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, who will be offering Roosevelt Raceway memorabilia items for sale.

Pompano Park plans to play Roosevelt Raceway races between live races. Other details and activities are still being worked out.

This will be an evening of fun and remembrance for Roosevelt Raceway horsemen and fans alike.
