Popular Western New York mare set to make final start

Batavia, NY — Popular pacing mare Southwind Prairie is set to bid adieu to the racetrack when she makes her final career start in race ten on Wednesday night (Nov. 30) at Batavia Downs Casino.

The Bettor’s Delight-Prettytrickynikki 7-year-old mare has 145 starts under her belt with a record of 23 wins, 21 seconds, 31 thirds and lifetime earnings of $285,561. She took her 1:54.2 mark as a 3-year-old at Northfield Park.

Her career highlight came when she won a $113,505 New York Sire Stake event for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Monticello with Greg Grismore in the bike for trainer Andy Rickert. She also won the Patsy C. Rapone Memorial at 2 for trainer/driver Steve Schoeffel.

She’s owned by Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel along with Roger Romesser and Jim Reuther.

Plans are to breed Southwind Prairie to Real Artist, who stands in Pennsylvania.
