Post positions set for Fall Final Four Stakes

from Meadowlands Media Relations

Post positions have been set for the Fall Final Four, a quartet of stakes for two-year-old trotters and pacers, on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

The featured events are the $200,000 Three Diamonds for pacing fillies [race 2], $237,400 Governor’s Cup for pacing colts and geldings [race 3], the $228,600 Valley Victory for trotting colts and geldings [race 5] and the $211,800 Goldsmith Maid for trotting fillies [race 7]. The Saturday night program also includes the $60,000 Oil Burner Final for three-year-old colt pacers [race 8] and the $51,300 Charles Singer Memorial for three-year-old colt trotters [race 1].

Meadowlands guests will receive a free Dunkin’ Donuts coffee tumbler that evening [with paid admission, while supplies last]. Breeders Crown champion Restive Hanover is the slight 6-5 morning line favorite in the $200,000 Three Diamonds. The daughter of The Panderosa, who has won eight of 13 starts this season, drew post position four. She is trained by Erv Miller and will be driven by Andy Miller.

Just Wait Kate is the 7-5 second choice in the field and will start from post two with driver Ron Pierce. Trained by Travis Alexander and owned and bred by Arlene and Jules Siegel of New Hope, Pennsylvania, Just Wait Kate got up in the final strides to win the Three Diamonds prep by a head over Restive Hanover in 1:53.1. The daughter of Real Artist – Katies Lucky Lady is a full sister to 2003 Two-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year Kikikatie.

After a convincing 1:54.3 score in last week’s prep race, Dawn Ofa New Day was tabbed as the even-money morning line favorite in the $237,400 Governor’s Cup and will also be piloted by Pierce.

The son of Western Ideal – Dawn Q has won six of nine starts for trainer Chris Ryder. A $50,000 Tattersalls yearling purchase, Dawn Ofa New Day is a half-brother to a successful pair of pacers, Michael Q and Elephants Can Fly. He races for the partnership of Norman Smiley of Boca Raton, Florida; Gerald Smiley of Cote Saint-Luc, Quebec and Ted Gewertz of New York, New York.

With an impressive record of eight wins in 11 starts this season, Motivational was installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite from post nine in the $211,800 Goldsmith Maid. Trained and owned by Kathleen La Montagne, Motivational captured last week’s prep race in 1:58.2. Strong Yankee was installed as the 9-5 favorite from post one in the $228,600 Valley Victory. Trainer-driver Trond Smedshammer opted to skip last week’s prep race with the colt, who enters the race off a dominant victory in the Matron at Dover.

Strong Yankee has a record of two wins, two seconds and one third from five starts this season and earnings of just under $200,000.
