Campbellville, ON — Two-year-old pacers will converge on Mohawk Racetrack this Saturday evening (August 20) for a heavily staked card. Three divisions of the Nassagaweya Stakes for colt pacers and two divisions of the Eternal Camnation for fillies headline the night, with 45 of the best rookie pacers on the continent going head-to-head.

Hurrikane Kingcole, Canada’s fastest 2-year-old this season, has a record of 1:51.3 taken at Mohawk for trainer Des Takoor and owners John Levy Racing Stable, Hurrikane Racing LLC, Jeffrey Kuhen and Mitchell Cohen.

Hurrikane Kingcole has banked $28,351 in his brief career.

The son of Cam’s Card Shark-Blazing Yankee will look to extend his current three-race win streak when he lines up behind the gate in the third division.

“He’s freaky fast,” Takoor said from his home. “He’s not the flashiest horse out there, but when you go a mile with him, you find out quick that he’s the real deal.”

Takoor has been keeping an eye on the top colts coming up from the United States to prepare for the C$1 million Metro Pace on September 3.

“I’ve been following the American horses and there’s a few that stand out,” he noted. “Obviously, I Fought Dalaw is impressive and so is Mel Mara, along with a few others.”

Hurrikane Kingcole will face his toughest task to date this Saturday, something not lost on Takoor.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend,” he said. “Everything seems to be good with him. He will train a little on Tuesday and we will get him as ready as we can have him.”

Hurrikane Kingcole was developed by John McDermott in New Jersey before he sent the freshman pacer to Takoor in preparation for the Metro, a contest the latter captured in 2000 with Pro Bono Best.

I Fought Dalaw will headline the first Nassagaweya division. The Sam DePinto trainee was victorious in all his four of his lifetime appearances.
