Columbus, MN — The $12,000 Open Handicap Trot was the featured event on the Sunday evening (Aug. 19) program at Running Aces, and a good field of seven lined up for battle, including four current track record holders.

Record holders Pridecrest (Steve Wiseman) and Banker Volo (Rick Magee) were co-favorites at 9-5, while Silverlode (Lemoyne Svendsen) and Ideal Jesse (James Yoder) were the next two public choices in that order, and those four would dominate the affair and comprise the superfecta.

Banker Volo was quickest off the gate, but Pridecrest came calling for the lead early, and took control just after the :28 opening quarter. Pridecrest remained well in control from there, and was never in doubt, orchestrating a relaxed middle-half of :58.4 to have plenty left in the tank and kick home in :28.2 for a solid win by a length in 1:55.1. Banker Volo was a strong second after turning back the challenge of Silverlode for the runner-up spot, and Ideal Jesse was home in fourth.

Pridecrest ($5.80) is a 6-year-old gelding by Angus Hall, owned by Christopher Schick and conditioned by leading trainer Kathleen Plested.

Bringoverthemoney (Rick Magee) found his way right back to the winner’s circle in the $10,200 Minnesota-Sired 3-year-old trot “class A” event, after having his six race win streak snapped by a neck at the wire last week. The ultra-impressive gelding by Money Talks fired sharply from the gate and right to the front from his assigned outside seven post and dominated affairs, while stealing soft fractions on the front.

Bringoverthemoney ($5.00) had plenty left in the tank to hold off challengers from all sides in the homestretch, to arrive home a winner in 1:59.4 with the filly Dekker (Steve Wiseman) getting up for second by three-quarters of a length after finding herself 24 lengths in arrears following a break at the start.

Bringoverthemoney now has eight wins in 13 starts this season and has banked $47,615 for owner Jasmine Horvat and trainer Brian Detgen.

Tinhorn Creek (Steve Wiseman) pulled off the upset ($32.60) in a $9,000 conditioned pace with a sharp sweeping move to the front near the three-eighths pole. Wiseman took control and kept his pacer rolling through a solid middle-half of :56.1, while saving just enough in reserve to hold off the late closers and post a three-quarter length tally in 1:52.4 for his fourth win of the season. The 8-year-old son of Ameripan Gigolo is owned by Medinah Racing and Tyler Wiseman and trained by Kathleen Plested.

The victory on Tinhorn Creek was another notch in a four-win night for leading driver Steve Wiseman, who also piloted another big longshot to victory when he wired the field with The Gobye Girl ($30.00) in the finale.

The 20-cent Jackpot-Pick 5 now has a $20,377.02 carryover, and the 50-cent Hi-5 also offers a carryover of $3,400.84 for Tuesday night (Aug. 21) with first post at 7 p.m. (CDT).
