from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — The USTA has teamed up with representatives from Preferred Equine Marketing, the Standardbred Horse Sales Co., Lexington Selected Horse Sales Co., Plainridge Park Casino and the Harness Horsemen’s Association of New England to host a series of events for prospective racehorse owners in conjunction with the Lexington Selected Sale, Harrisburg Mixed Sale and at Plainridge Park.

Night at The Red Mile and Brunch at Fasig-Tipton: Oct. 3-4, 2015

The Lexington event will include a ‘Night at The Red Mile,’ on Saturday (Oct. 3), where interested parties will be treated to a cocktail hour before the races, plus a meet-and-greet with trainers, drivers and industry insiders, followed by an action-packed night of racing from the Hoof Beats private grandstand box.

The following morning (Sunday, Oct. 4), participants will enjoy brunch at Fasig-Tipton Sale Pavilion, where they will see the yearling selection process, hear success stories and learn more about the harness racing industry from top trainers and owners.

Harrisburg Sale Mixer: Nov. 5, 2015

The Harrisburg Sale Mixer will be held Thursday (Nov. 5) at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show complex at 5 p.m. Guests will be treated to light appetizers and cocktails and hear from top trainers and owners who have mastered racehorse ownership in today’s market.

They will also be able to get up close and personal with some of the racehorses arriving for the mixed sale and learn the ins and outs of what to look for in a productive racehorse.

Plainridge Park New Owners Seminar and Barn Tour: Oct. 17, 2015

Plainridge Park and the Harness Horsemen’s Association of New England will offer a free, introductory seminar Saturday (Oct. 17) for those considering first-time horse ownership of a Standardbred racehorse.

The seminar, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will cover rewards and financial obligations of horse ownership; the various ways to get started owning a horse; costs; developing a business plan and how to perform due diligence.

The educational event will be held in the Newbury Room on the second floor at the track: Plainridge Park Casino, 301 Washington St., Plainville, MA 02762, between Boston and Providence.

The day will combine classroom instruction with a visit to the Plainridge stable area to speak with a trainer. Participants will also hear from an owner based at Plainridge for insight on their experiences and advice for rookie owners.

The USTA will provide a free subscription to Hoof Beats, along with a credit for Pathway, the online Standardbred information system.

We hope to present guests at each event with the simplest and fastest avenues to Standardbred racehorse ownership, so that they can go from the grandstand to the winner’s circle as soon as possible.
