Puddin N Pie scores at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Puddin N Pie has been a consistent check casher in 2019. In fact, the 5-year-old altered son of Yankee Glide has been on the board in eight of nine starts this year. However, an overall win slate of 2-40 heading into Wednesday night’s (April 24) $8,000 featured conditioned trot at Rosecroft, overshadows some of the horse’s consistency.

Wayne Long sat patiently in third, some seven lengths behind pacesetter Lothario, who cut fractions of :27.2, :56.2, and 1:25.2. At the three-quarter pole, Long launched his move and eventually tracked down the speed demon by a half-length in a lifetime best of 1:56.3. Howard Birney owns and trains the winner.

Miss Choptank and Bill Long also rallied from off the pace, as the Maryland Sires Stakes champion at two and three picked up her second straight win in 2019 in 1:54. Wayne Givens trains the 4-year-old daughter of Total Truth for Legacy Racing of Delaware and Stephen Townsend.

John Wagner picked up a double as Going The Distance picked up his first win for the new barn of Mackenzie Kiel, and Halloween Girl won for the third time this year for Kasey Bendix and Virginia Marvel and trainer Jerry Nock.

Some 12 years to the month where her mother Boca Hanover won a Mares Open at Rosecroft, Alexis’ Fraternity broke her maiden in her second lifetime start for trainer-driver Timmy Offutt, who co-owns the filly with Gerry and Tammy Lafferty.

One of the most popular wins on the card came in race five, when longtime owners James and Sara Mae Wilkins’ trotter Nite On Broadway scored a wire-to-wire win for Roger Plante. It was Nite On Broadway’s first win in three years.

Rosecroft’s leading driver Frank Milby upped his meet leading total to 32 with a win aboard Accokeek Mercury for Rusty Cox.
