With nearly half the field off stride at different points in the race, Shawn Johnston kept Pure Poetry to her task. The 6-year-old daughter of Creatine-Chaka Khan edged past L Dees Maria in deep-stretch and downed her by a head in 2:02. Global Gal finished third.

Lester Mullet trains Pure Poetry for Heidi Mullet.

Mullet enjoyed a training sweep of Wednesday’s co-features when GD Cool Otoole held off late challengers inside and out to capture a $10,900 Filly & Mare Conditioned Pace for Chris Lems. Chris Hostetler owns the 3-year-old daughter of Freaky Feet Pete-Plenty Otoole, who scored by a neck in 1:58.3. Touchin Base and the first-over U Rock I Roll rounded out the ticket.

Aaron Merriman, Hunter Myers and Dave Palone joined Lems with doubles on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday (Jan. 18) when the 13-race program features a $625.22 carryover in the Early Pentafecta (race 4). First post is 12:45 p.m.
