Quality Western, Cayenne Turbo to stand in Ohio

from Horseplex of Indiana

Shelbyville, IN — Horseplex of Indiana has announced that Quality Western, a winner of nearly $1.3 million during his career, will be formally retired from competition Saturday evening, Jan. 30, in a ceremony at the Meadowlands. The ceremony will be held after the third race on the program.

With a mark of 1:49.2 and 42 career wins to his credit, the son of Western Hanover is slated to stand his first season for Horseplex of Indiana at Autumn Lane Farm in Thornville, Ohio. The richest stallion to stand in Ohio, Quality Western’s fee is set at $2,500.

“He gave 110 percent every time,” said trainer Richard Johnson, Quality Western’s conditioner in recent years. “He definitely paid his dues. He enjoyed racing and did the best he could. I’ve got to believe his longevity and durability account for something.”

Horseplex of Indiana is adding a second trotting stallion to its Ohio roster for the 2010 breeding season. Cayenne Turbo 2,1:54.4; 4,1:52.1 ($138,775), by Angus Hall-Tarport Maggie-Baltic Speed, will stand his first season at Autumn Lane Farm in 2010.

At three the trotter finished second in an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold elimination and Goodtimes division. As a 4-year-old he captured a Hiram Woodruff Series leg and finished third in the final.

Cayenne Turbo is the fastest trotting stallion in the state, and will stand for a fee of $1,250.
