Questions answered about Sunshine Select Sale

by Bob Marks

Lake Worth, FL WHY THE JAN 25 DATE?

Three distinct reasons…in between NFL finals and Super Bowl Sunday. Northerners are more likely to visit South Florida in January than any other month. Most importantly it gives purchasers of these horses extra time to go with them before reaching the stakes deadline.

HOW COME YOU’RE BILLING IT AS THE LAST YEARLING SALE OF THE SEASON?

In effect it is, as it represents the final opportunity to obtain that yearling who is now a gaited and going newly turned 2-year-old for the lucrative stakes season later on.

CAN WE SEE THEM IN MOTION?

Absolutely, Videos will be posted on the website prior to the sale and there will be special show days at the South Florida Trotting Center for just that purpose. In addition, training center locations and barn numbers of all consigned horses will be posted on the web site.

ARE THESE SIMPLY CONSIGNOR CULLS THAT DIDN’T SELL AT THE YEARLING SALES?

Absolutely not! Many of these colts and fillies were purchased at Lexington and Harrisburg for the expressed purpose of pin hooking at this venue. Others may not have made the sales for various cosmetic reasons but will have been pointed for this venue accordingly.

DO I HAVE TO CONSIGN AND SHOW MY OWN HORSE?

Again, no! The Sunshine Select Sales Agency has been created for just that purpose. Trainers can ship horses and not worry about the presentation. Experienced showers will be on hand for just that purpose. Local trainers can go with their horses as they see fit and experienced personnel will be available for the same purpose for those too far away.
