Quincy Blue Chip and Winndevie lead NYSS starters at Monticello

Monticello, NY — The number one and two point earners for 3-year-old trotting fillies will square off in a New York Sire Stakes event at Monticello Raceway on Monday (July 29). Winndevie and Quincy Blue Chip will compete in the solo split of Sire Stakes, racing for a purse of $118,800.

Quincy Blue Chip (post two) will have her regular driver Jim Morrill Jr. She recently changed barns and is now trained by part-owner Richard Banca, who shares ownership with Barbara and Jim Boese. The Chapter Seven-Sirenuse lass was the winner of the elimination and final of the Empire Breeders Classic earlier this year at Vernon Downs. She has also earned NYSS victories at Saratoga and Tioga Downs. She has earned $215,121 this season and has a lifetime mark of 1:53.2.

Leading point earner Winndevie leads the way with 150 points. The Credit Winner–Vida De Vie filly was last year’s champion 2-year-old filly by virtue of her win in the Night of Champions. She has only been out of the money once this season. Winndevie has won Sire Stakes events this year at Buffalo Raceway and Yonkers and also has a pair of place performances at Tioga Downs and Saratoga. She will start from post position six. Trainer Trond Smedshammer has elected to have Jason Bartlett drive the filly for owner Purple Haze Stables.

Amal Hall (Credit Winner–Arabella Hall) will score from post position four. The Julie Miller trainee will be driven by Andy Miller. Her slate includes two wins in the Excelsior A class and a win in the Empire Breeder Classic eliminations.

Stella Jane (Crazed–Naughty Nana) will start from post five for owners Crawford Farms Racing. She earned her season’s mark of 1:55.3 in a Sire Stakes event at Tioga Downs. Cory Callahan will be driving the John Butenschoen trainee.

Also on the card are three $15,000 divisions of the Excelsior A class and three $6,600 heats of the Excelsior B.

Post time is 12:50 p.m. for the eight-race card.
