Race at Mohawk ruled no contest

Campbellville, ON — A broken line on trotter Loch Katrine in Thursday’s (June 7) first race at Mohawk resulted in the race being declared “no contest” by the Ontario Racing Commission judges.

In rein to driver Jack Moiseyev, the 3-year-old daughter of Andover Hall broke the right line behind the starting gate moments before it released the field. Loch Katrine veered into the filly beside her (Summer Drinks), causing a chain reaction of interference.

Moiseyev’s charge galloped full speed into the turn and continued to travel the proper circuit of the track with a pair of outriders in hot pursuit.

Loch Katrine wasn’t apprehended by the outriders, she simply pulled up in the backstretch at the completion of the race when other horses did the same. At that point, Moiseyev got off the bike and brought her to a stop.

The ORC Judges felt that the incident at the gate, in addition to the attempts of the outriders to catch the filly, interrupted the race to the point that it was in the best interest of the betting public that the race be declared a “no contest.”

There were no horses or drivers injured in the mishap.
