Races for armed forces vets at Monticello Raceway to benefit Veterans Food Pantry

Monticello, NY — Monticello Raceway is gearing up to host this year’s Veterans Driving Challenge which is set for Wednesday (Nov. 10). These races will be a competition of former servicemen/women who are also licensed harness drivers.

According to Director and Program Administrator Kathy Kreiter, monies raised from the events will once again be donated to the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless Veterans Food Pantry.

Efforts by the North American Amateur Drivers Association and the Catskill Amateur Drivers Club are once again coming to fruition, according to NAADA vice president Alan Schwartz.

The Veterans Driving Challenge is open to former U.S. servicemen/women who are also harness drivers licensed by the USTA and/or Standardbred Canada.

“If you have served in the armed forces and possess either an “A” or “P” harness license, you are qualified to compete in this worthy cause,” Schwartz noted.

Any eligible armed forces veteran interested in competing is urged to contact Schwartz at 845.791.7747 or Eric Warner, Monticello Raceway’s Director of Racing, at 845.794.4100, ext. 557.
