Racing Roundup: Adonis Bay Rebounds to take Buffalo feature

Hamburg, NY — After a pair of disappointing setbacks, Adonis Bay returned to his winning ways by capturing the $13,000 Open Pace at Buffalo Raceway on Saturday night (July 13).

Reverting back to his successful style of racing, that being on the front end, Adonis Bay posted fractions of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:26.2 in covering the mile in 1:55. He beat Black Is Back (David McNeight III) by three-quarters of a length while Manceiver (Kevin Cummings) took third.

The victory with Adonis Bay gave driver Ray Fisher Jr. a sweep of the weekend features as he notched the win aboard Lougazi in the Open Trot on Friday night.

Owned by Michael Gentner and trained by Jerry Nugent Jr., it was the fourth win in 22 appearances for Adonis Bay (If I Can Dream-Kiss Me I’m Lucky). The triumph moved the 7-year-old gelding’s 2019 bankroll to $48,390 and $269,295 lifetime.

Rose Run Ranger (Drew Monti) needed every inch of the Buffalo Raceway home stretch and was able to squeeze out a nose victory over In Runaway Bay N in the $11,000 Class AA pace.

Going three-wide around the final turn, Rose Run Ranger was persistent in his drive to the lead and finally nudged ahead of In Runaway Bay N at the wire. Lots Of Lovin (Denny Bucceri) took the third place check. Rose Run Ranger covered the mile in a seasonal best of 1:54.4.

Co-owned by the Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, it was the seventh win in 21 starts for Rose Run Ranger (Major In Art-A And G’s Finest). The 6-year-old gelding has produced $55,330 in earnings this season and $130,300 lifetime.

Harry Hoo N (Shawn McDonough) slipped through in the passing lane and snagged a nose decision over Grantor Hanover in the $10,000 Class A pace in seasonal best of 1:54.1. It was the second straight triumph for Harry Hoo N ($5.00).

McNeight III and Fisher Jr. had a driving triples on the card while Monti and Billy Davis Jr had doubles. David McNeight Sr., James Clouser Jr. and Jeff Amann all had two training wins.

The final week of the 2019 season at Buffalo Raceway gets underway on Wednesday night as a 13-race card will be presented. The New York Sire Stakes will take place for the final time this year as the 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters will headline the card. There will also be action in the Excelsior A and B series.

Saratoga Casino Hotel

Military Master A (Bettor’s Delight) parlayed his pocket trip to victory in the $15,000 Open Pace on Saturday night at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Mark Beckwith picked up the catch-drive behind the Lance Hudson trainee and moved him out to the early lead before giving way to the race’s favorite Starznheaven in an opening quarter that went in :27.1. Starznheaven cruised unopposed through the middle half of the feature before Military Master A launched his bid around the final turn. Those two squared off in the stretch after drawing away from their competition, but at the wire it was Military Master A that proved fastest of all in a mile clocked in 1:51.2. Starznheaven was the runner-up while Panocchio (Gerry Mattison) finished third. It was the first win in the Open for Military Master A and the third victory of the year overall for the 8-year-old who paid $9.90 to win in the mild upset. The exacta with the favorite second paid $43.60 while the triple came back $123. Live racing resumes on Tuesday evening at Saratoga with a 7:05 p.m. first post.

Tioga Downs

Priarie Fortune (Jim Meittinis) was once again victorious in the $12,000 featured Open trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday (July 13). The Last Chapter (Wally Hennessey) led the group to a first quarter in :27.1. Prairie Fortune ($3.50) gained control as they went by the stands for the first time. He reached the half first in :56.3. The Last Chapter had to settle for the pocket seat. Prairie Fortune continued to lead as they reached three-quarters in 1:26. Prairie Fortune, who is owned by trainer Mike Deters with Laurie Poulin, had plenty left in the tank and cruised to an easy win in a seasonal best of 1:53.3. The Last Chapter held for second. Rose Run Rudi (Aaron Byron) was a distant third. Prairie Fortune is a 7-year-old gelding by Arapa Victory. It was win number six of the season. He now has finished first 53 times in his career. Leading driver Wally Hennesey drove three winners on the night. He got his wins with I Rhoda Daley ($5.10), Celebrity Lover ($2.90). and Boli ($4.40). Meittinis and Andy Santeramo each had driving doubles. Meittinis got his other victory with Barney Mac ($5.10). Santeramo went to the winner’s circle with Schubie ($21.80), and BJ Lorado ($4.80). Tioga Downs returns to live racing on Sunday (July 14) with a 15-race card featuring two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for sophomore trotting fillies. Vernon Downs

Dreams Beachboy (Gates Brunet) captured the $6,000 featured pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday. Golden Brit (Howard Parker) battled and took the lead just before hitting the first quarter in :26.4. Electrofire (Jennifer Lappe) settled for the pocket trip. Golden Brit kept the lead as they hit the half in :55.2. Dreams Beachboy ($7.90), who is owned by Crawford Farms Racing and trained by Brunet, went first over from third just before the halfway point. He then took over as they headed for the final turn. He led to three-quarters in 1:22.4 and glided home to win easily in a seasonal best of 1:51.3. Golden Brit finished in second. Golden Gun (Claude Huckabone Jr.) took home third money. Dreams Beachboy is a 7-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere. He won for the second time this season and now has 27 career victories. John MacDonald drove three winners on the night. His wins came with Intuitive Writer ($7.30), Haulin’ Oats ($8.00), and Brookdale Bruiser ($5.20). Howard Parker and Irving Mauran each had two wins on the night. Parker won with Rebel Jet ($28.40) and Rocksapatriot ($3.30). Mauran teamed up with owner-trainer Barbara Stephenson to win with Somelucksomerock ($14.80) and Klondike Art ($16.10). Eddie captured the second annual wiener trot. He is owned by Jessica Cook. She won a $500 wagering voucher. Paisley finished second for owner Gina Greco, getting a $200 wagering voucher. Luna picked up the third place prize of a $100 wagering voucher for his owner Raymond. Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Thursday (July 18) with a 10-race card featuring two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for sophomore pacing colts and geldings. Post time is 6:10 p.m.
