Ashes Cash pays off in $20,000 Dover feature

Dover, DE — Ashes Cash won the $20,000 Open Trot over a track labeled “good’ on Wednesday at Dover Downs.

Ashes Cash was a 1:55 winner in the Open Trot.

Ross Wolfenden drove Ashes Cash for trainer Leigh Raymer of the Tyler Raymer Stable to his second win in a row, chalking up a 1:55 score in the week’s top trot. A career winner of 17 races in 32 starts, the Vito Cucci-owned Cash Hall-Ashameg 4-year-old gelding won easily. Spunky Jack (Roger Plante) closed well and made a misstep in his final steps and finished second. Mandabra (Corey Callahan) took third money.

Baximum finally made the winner’s circle in his sixth 2014 start. The Cantab Hall-Bax Machine gelding, trained by Bobby Clark, had been close in recent races. After starting from the outside, Daryl Bier worked his way into challenging position and closed strongly to overtake front-trotting Looking Hanover (Ron Pierce) in the late going to notch a 1:54.4 triumph. Amiga Valley (Montrell Teague) finished third for the second straight start.

After consecutive second-place finishes, Ideal Revenue made the winner’s circle with a 1:56.4 victory with George Dennis in the bike. Trainer Jim Atkinson owns the Revenue S-New Ideal gelding with his wife Carol. Six Gun Hall (Allan Davis) was placed second and Jailhouse Juice (Toby Lynch) placed third after Picard (Corey Callahan), who was second to the finish line, made a lapped-on break nearing the wire.

The win was one of two for the Atkinsons. Their Brite Jet scored a 39-1 surprise with Allan Davis driving to win a $6,000 mares pace.

Drivers Trace Tetrick, Ron Pierce, Allan Davis, George Dennis and Corey Callahan and trainers Josh Green and Leigh Raymer of the Tyler Raymer Stable had two wins each.
