Believe This Bob pulls surprise in $27,500 Delaware Special

Dover, DE — Believe This Bob stormed past Nova Artist in deep stretch to win this week’s $27,500 Delaware Special Handicap in a lifetime best 1:50.1 clocking on Thursday (March 20) at Dover Downs.

Believe This Bob was a 1:50.1 winner in the Dover feature.

Tim Tetrick took Jeremy’s Successor into an early lead, only to succumb to a strong challenge from the Allan Davis-driven Nova Artist at the three-quarters. Believe This Bob had followed Nova Artist on the outside and was able to find room second as Jeremey’s Successor faltered.

On the turn for home Montrell Teague urged Believe This Bob alongside and then on to a 1:50.1 victory in the week’s top pace. Nova Artist held for second and All Stienam, driven by Ross Wolfenden, finished third.

Mary Ann Larrimore owns Believe This Bob, now trained by Joe Skowyra. It was the first win of the year in three starts for the Beach Romeo-Believe That Gal gelding who won for the 17th time in his career, raising his earnings to $166,236.

Tim Tetrick, who combined with track leading trainer Dylan Davis for a perfect three-for-three, won the sub-featured $17,500 Open Handicap with Lindwood Player in another career best clocking of 1:50.3. Mike Casalino, who had two of those winners, and trainer Davis own The Panderosa-Driect Player 5-year-old, now a four-time winner this meet. His earnings stand at $48,855 this year and $237,024 lifetime. Wahine (Jim Morand) was runner-up with Mr Dennis (Wolfenden) the show horse.

In a $10,000 DSBF 3-year-old colt pace prelim, Elite Awards warmed up for the $20,000 first leg next week by disposing of six foes easily in 1:54.3. George Dennis drove the Karen Walls, Powerful Toy-Silk Slip gelding trained by Dave Rearic. It was Elite Awards’ first start of the year. His record is now seven wins in eight races, winning $104,225. Bobbies Power Play (Bryan Truitt) was second in front of Powerful Fella (Wolfenden).

Driver Jim Devaux piloted four winners on the Thursday card at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The veteran reinsman scored back-to-back wins while driving for trainer Dave Dewhurst. Blarney (Conway Hall) and Mchoffman (McArdle) each recorded victories for Dewhurst and Devaux. The 46-year-old driver also guided Artgentina and REL Postage Due to pocket sitting wins.
