Blue Creek Angie wins for the 18th time this year

Monticello, NY — Over the past three years Blue Creek Angie has been a winning machine, reaching the winner’s circle 46 times in 101 trips to the post. And with four weeks of racing still remaining before the curtain comes down on the 2011 campaign at Monticello Raceway — her home track for the past three seasons — there’s still time for her to add to her totals.

Blue Creek Angie scored her 18th victory of 2011 on Monday at Monticello Raceway.

On Monday (Dec. 5), the 8-year-old On The Attack mare made her 39th start this season and she scored her 18th triumph with her regular pilot, Bruce Aldrich, Jr., at the controls.

In that contest Aldrich left from the pole position and let Nice Big Star grab command, only to retake before the quarter and then cruise to an easy four length victory in a time of 1:56.1.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love this mare. We get along great. She understands me and I understand her,” Aldrich said of Blue Creek Angie. “And even though we’ve only had her for the past three seasons, still, in 200 lifetime starts she has won 71 races for a winning percentage of .355. That’s a pretty good percentage, I’d say, wouldn’t you?”

With that triumph Blue Creek Angie has moved into a second place tie with New Release and El Ringer in races won in North America this season. The trio trails leader Mack Hill by just one victory.

The Meadows
Rebounding from a last-place finish, Kandor Hanover followed cover beautifully, then charged through the lane to capture Monday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Trot at The Meadows. Defeated in the slop as the 3-2 favorite last week, Kandor Hanover trotted along the cones in mid-pack before she picked up the live cover of Hawaiianphotograph. She peeled off for Dave Palone in the stretch and triumphed in 1:54.3, her fastest win this year. Caviar Forthe Lady was 2-1/4 lengths back in second with Slightly Tipsy third. Bill Zendt trains Kandor Hanover, a 5-year-old daughter of Tagliabue-Katelyns Glory who soared over $400,000 in career earnings, for Online Stables, John Burns and Patrick Huber.

Dover Downs
Cams Art and driver David Miller were re-united and the pair made the winners circle after a 1:50.1 triumph in the $30,000 Delaware Special. Vlos won the $23,000 Open pace on a balmy Monday card, Dec. 5 at Dover Downs. Last season, David Miller drove Cams Art to 10 wins and Horse of the Meet honors. For the first time this meet, the duo combined efforts for a near-wire-to-wire victory in the week’s top pacing event. The 4-year-old Cams Fortune-My Foolish Art gelding trained by Ryan McInnis notched his 13th win of the year for breeders-owners Morgan and Jeannie McInnis. Cams Art has won $197,777 in 2011. Nova Artist (Allan Davis) put in a huge effort racing outside the winner for almost the last half-mile and stayed second. Early leader Fancyfreeshark (Jon Roberts) finished third.

The Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park
In one of the fastest dead heats in track history dating to 1964, 3-year-old pacing fillies JK Geronimo and Southwind Trini could not be separated by the photo finish camera at the conclusion of the third race of the Monday, December 5 program at The Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park. On an ideal 73 (23 C.) evening in South Florida, the two fillies raced as a team for the final half-mile leading up to the tie. Southwind Trini, by Rocknroll Hanover-Tattoo Hanover, was put on the lead early by Wally Hennessey in 27 seconds and at the 55.4 half for the ownership of Karma Stable of Parkland, FL and trainer Tom Artandi. Coming to call on the outside for the final half-mile was JK Geronimo by Bettors Delight-JK Getoutofmyway, piloted by David Ingraham for owner Joe Martinelli of Staten Island, NY and trainer Paul Bernardo. The fillies blitzed the backstretch in 27.4 to the last turn in 1:23.3 and all the way to the dead heat conclusion in 1:52.3. It was the first win in 26 trips this year for JK Geronimo and the 6th win in 22 starts in 2011 for Southwind Trini. The clocking represented a lifetime mark for both.
