Career best for Hawaiianphotograph in Meadows trot

Meadow Lands, PA — Hawaiianphotograph shrugged off a demanding first quarter and scored a decisive victory in the $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Trot on Wednesday at The Meadows.

Saddled with post position eight, Hawaiianphotograph found herself battling for the early lead with I’m Justa Lady. While the first panel in :27.3 left I’m Justa Lady without late trot, Hawaiianphotograph grew stronger on the lead, zipping through a back half in :57 for Dave Palone. She prevailed in 1:54.3, 2-3/4 lengths better than AJ’s Baby, with Whybabywhy a distant third.

The mile was a career best for the daughter of S J’s Photo-Hawaiian Rose and the fastest trotted this year by a 4-year-old mare on a five-eighths-mile track. It was two ticks off the track record established by Hidden Viggorish in 2007.

Bill Zendt trains Hawaiianphotograph for Shanamphilaniklou.

Aaron Merriman drove five winners and Palone four on the 16-race card.

Buck ID cops Monticello feature

Monticello, NY — Trotters were in the spotlight at Monticello Raceway with the best on the grounds duking it out in the winners over class and the undercard supporting four other trots.

In the weekly trotting feature with Getthemoney and Lively Moment taking most of the bettors’ money it was Ken Weckstein’s Buck ID who brought home the bacon in a 1:59.3 clocking.

With Jordan Stratton at the controls Buck ID started slowly, settling down in fourth position along the pylons as the field rounded the first turn. Heading toward the halfway point Stratton moved Buck ID first-up and by the time the field reached the three- quarters the 5-year-old Superstar Sahbra gelding cleared and had a length lead on the pack.

From there Buck ID poured it on and had four lengths at the top of the lane and finished an eased-up three length winner over Self Professed with Lively Moment third in the place photo.

It marked the second win in a row for the Gary Messenger-trained trotter and fifth triumph in his last seven starts.
