Caviar Forthe Lady scores in Meadows Trot

Washington, PA — Caviar Forthe Lady gained the lead with a powerful quarter-pole move that carried her to a comfortable victory in Wednesday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Caviar Forthe Lady had been hampered in recent editions of the track’s top distaff trot by leaving herself too much work to do late. On Wednesday, she and Mike Wilder took matters into their own hands, brushing to the front early and scoring in 1:55.4. Careless Love was 2-3/4 lengths back in second, with AJ’s Baby third.

Marty Wollam trains the 4-year-old daughter of SJ’s Caviar-Croupier Lady who vaulted over $400,000 in career earnings for Acadia Farms.

Tony Hall drove three winners on the 14-race card.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
Rusty Tank, with Mike Simons in the sulky, came from off the pace to win the featured race on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The win was in the $20,000 claiming pace for horses, colts and geldings with a special distance of a mile and a quarter. Time for the race was 2:24.1. Rusty Tank, trained by Jake Huff, was racing for the first time after being claimed for $15,000 on September 1 at the Northeastern Pennsylvania racetrack by Rosalia Huff and Vincenzo Villante. This was the fourth win in 18 starts this season for the 5-year-old Dragon Again gelding. Saul Needle, director of racing at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, likes to card the mile and a quarter tests for pacers and trotters so the fans get a first-hand look at the start of the race. Horses in these races start at the finish line and make two complete circles around the five-eighths-mile oval.
