Certified Ideal easy victor in Meadows feature; Palone wins six

Washington, PA — Certified Ideal pulled the pocket at the half and rolled to a convincing victory in Monday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Nosed out last week by Do Me Honor, Certified Ideal found herself behind Do Me Honor after the two dueled for the early lead.

When Tony Hall moved Certified Ideal, the 4-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-Areba’s Last blew by Do Me Honor, widened her lead and scored in 1:52.4 on a “good” surface. Do Me Honor was a game second, 2-1/2 lengths back, with Phone Terror third.

Randy Bendis trains Certified Ideal, who extended her career bankroll to $178,392, and owns with Mike Novosel, Jr., Tom Pollack and James Walton.

Dave Palone drove six winners on the 14-race card.

Harrington Raceway
John Dayton’s Just A Jolt ($6.60, Victor Kirby) notched his third consecutive win Monday at Harrington Raceway with a 1:52.4 triumph in the $17,000 Open. The 4-year-old Village Jolt gelding improved to two-for-two in 2014 at Harrington, after besting a high-level conditioned group on April 21 in 1:51.3. Trained by Jim King, Jr., Just A Jolt sat in the pocket throughout behind pacesetting favorite Lollipop Kid who strolled through fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:25.3 over the sloppy racetrack. Just A Jolt gathered momentum in mid-stretch and surged by to prevail by a narrow margin. Two equine elder statesmen among the local racing colony prevailed later in the card. Art Brewer II’s Sharky Osborne ($9.60) earned his 59th career win in the 11th race with a 1:57.3 triumph. The Cam’s Card Shark gelding is closing in on $900,000 in career earnings. Meanwhile, 14-year-old Make It Brief ($3.20), also owned by Brewer II, recorded a 1:56.1 victory in the 13th race. The Camluck stallion earned his 45th career win and went over the $875,000 mark in lifetime earnings. Both horses are trained by Kathleen Brewer. Driver Jim Morand inched closer to the 9,000 win club with two winners on the program to give him 8,973 lifetime. Ross Wolfenden, Allan Davis and Eric Goodell also had driving doubles.

Northfield Park
Rose Run Logan crossed the finish line as the winner for the fourth consecutive time when he won the $11,000 Open Trot. Monday’s score was his ninth win in ten starts this year. He is owned and trained by Jeff Hochstetler. Josh Sutton was aboard for the winning drive. Rose Run Logan (Armbro Laser-How Miraculous) was assigned post seven and was fifth through the opening :28.1 quarter. Sutton pulled the trotter approaching the :57.3 half. He cleared in the third panel and never looked back. He continued with fractions of 1:27 and 1:56.4, besting his competition by 4-3/4 lengths. Completing the race were Mythical Hall, Julians Caesar, Jesse’s Messenger, Hello Carlo, Talladega Hanover and Norma’s Rose. Rose Run Logan now has 15 career successes and a bankroll of $50,698. He was the race favorite and paid $2.80 to win. The win was not the only Open that Northfield Park’s leading Driver Josh Sutton captured on the Monday program. In the evening’s opening race, Mybrothergeorge won in the $11,000 Open Pace. Barry Langley trains the 5-year-old for owner Kathleen Wallace. Mybrothergeorge (Rocknroll Hanover-Armbro Ophelia) started from post five and let his competition carve out fractions of :27.4, :56.3 and 1:26.1. He kicked home in the stretch, striking the front and finishing 1-1/4 lengths in front of his competition in 1:54.3. Western Churchill, Lyons JosephJNR, Iwilldowhatido, Rockin Finish and Rust Belt were the other finishers in the race.
Monday’s triumph increased Mybrothergeorge’s lifetime win tally to 21 and his earnings to $323,000. He returned $8.40 to win.
