Classicality comes first over to victory in Meadows trot

Washington, PA — Outside and uncovered the entire back half, Classicality relentlessly wore down the leader to capture Wednesday’s $22,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life Trot at The Meadows.

Classicality was fourth into the clubhouse turn when Brian Zendt sent him after Lady’s Dude, who’d enjoyed a leisurely second quarter in :30. The 5-year-old Classic Photo-Penn Worthy Lane gelding put Lady’s Dude away in the stretch and held off the rallying Neely’s Messenger by a neck in 1:54. Better Caviar was third.

Lisa Dunn trains the homebred Classicality, who extended his career bankroll to $290,637, for Dunn Stable.

Eric Ledford and Zendt each piloted three winners on the 15-race card.

Dover Downs
Tough Mac, one of last season’s top trotters at Dover Downs romped to an easy 1:54.2 lifetime fastest victory in the first $20,000 Open Handicap of the meet. Trained by last meets leader, Dylan Davis, and driven by perennial champion Corey Callahan, the 6-year-old altered son of Lockkeeper-Traditional Lady owned by Mike Casalino recorded his ninth win of the season and moved into the six-figure column now earning $107,855 this year and $233,7999 lifetime. Callahan rolled away to a :26.3 first quarter lead and never looked back pulling away to an easy victory with a :28.2 final panel. Winbak Charles M (Allan Davis) closed fast to nip Spunky Jack (Roger Plante) by a long nose to finish second. In the $15,000 semi-feature trot, Adrenalin Junkie won a photo finish in 1:57.4 to take the $15,000 3,4&5-year-old trot. It was the first of two wins for Jim Morand. Gary Simpson trains and co-owns with Eric Good, the Broadway Hall-Pure Adrenalin N 3-year-old gelding. Eskimo Joe (Tony Morgan) was a close second. Lighter Hanover (Vic Kirby) finished third. Morand also guided Lou Man to victory in a $12,500 conditioned trot in 1:55.1. The Indiana-bred 4-year-old scored his third consecutive victory. Jim King trains the altered son of Lou’s Legacy-Relyea, for owners John McGill and Brian Carsey. A $5,000 guaranteed Pick-4 pool is now featured daily.

Batavia Downs
After winning two of her first four races of 2015 back in January and February, Memumsnotnice went 0-for-21 the next eight months. But that drought ended in October and now the mare is riding a three-race win streak, all in Open mares company and all at Batavia Downs. On Wednesday (Nov. 4), Memumsnotnice ($7.20) took the $10,000 distaff Open pace in the same dominating fashion she displayed the previous two weeks. After leaving from post five, she led by a loose two-lengths while cutting fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:25.4 before cruising home unchallenged in 1:55. The winning time was a new seasonal mark. In her last three starts, Memumsnotnice has led at every station and won those races by a combined seven lengths. The winner’s share of Wednesday’s purse pushes Memumsnotnice’s earnings to $42,568 for owners Thatsideofthefence LLC and John Mungillo, who also trains the 6-year-old Jereme’s Jet mare. Kevin Cummings, Shawn McDonough, Jack Flanigen, Dave McNeight III and Ray Fisher Jr. all scored driving doubles Wednesday night. When live racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Friday (Nov. 6) at 6:15, the Pick-5 carryover will be $1,173. That is one of the largest carryover pools of the season.
