Dana’s Dragon continues to impress at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY — Dana’s Dragon continued her local dominance on Wednesday night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The Rob Harmon trained pacing mare didn’t have a win last season and hadn’t scored in 2011 before she came to town for the first time in May. In fact, the 4-year-old pacing mare had only recorded two lifetime victories before she came to the Spa.

Dana’s Dragon lowered her mark to 1:54.3 in the Wednesday feature.

Back in Dana’s Dragon’s (Dragon Again) local debut, driver Billy Dobson moved her first over and she proved worthy, scoring in a career best 1:56. She followed the victory up with another win when she came to town in June and flashed uncharacteristic early speed en route to a wire-to-wire win in 1:55.3 on July 8, an effort highlighted by a final quarter of :27.4.

On Wednesday night, Dana’s Dragon was out to prove that she could win at a higher level after recording her first three local scores in a lower condition. Leading driver Billy Dobson came first over with the 4-5 favorite in the evening’s featured race for conditioned and claiming pacing mares and Dana’s Dragon fought gamely, persevering through a final half of :57.3 to prevail for the fourth time in five local tries. The timer stopped in 1:54.3 for a lifetime mark for Dana’s Dragon who has certainly found a home at Saratoga. Maximum Bet (Jay Randall) held strong for second while Brooklyns Best (Mickey McGivern) came on for third.

Live racing resumes on Friday night at Saratoga with a first post time of 7:05 p.m.
