Eastend Eddie (Jim Marohn Jr.) captured Sunday’s open pace at Tioga Downs in 1:51.

Nichols, NY — Eastend Eddie and Jim Marohn Jr. captured Sunday afternoon’s $16,000 open pace at Tioga Downs. Leaving from post position one, after the rail horse (#1 Windsong Harley) was scratched out of the six horse field, Marohn settled Eastend Eddie in second as Sheer Brilliance (Aaron Byron) put up a 27.3 opening quarter.

Byron then controlled the field through fractions of 57 and 1:24.3 as Corey Braden moved Fireyourguns first-over from fifth. As the field went by three-quarters, Marohn pulled the pocket with Eastend Eddie and launched by Sheer Brilliance to open up on the field and win by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:51, with a 26 closing panel. Ron Burke trains the 5-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam–Armbro Cinema for Burke Racing and Weaver Bruscemi of Pennsylvania. It was the fifth win in twenty seasonal starts for Eastend Eddie, who has captured three of his last four starts at Tioga Downs good for seasonal earnings of more than $53,000.

Sheer Brilliance (Aaron Byron) hung on for second, while Fireyourguns (Corey Braden) finished third after a first-over move from fifth.

Aaron Byron posted a driving triple on the afternoon’s ten race card, while Brandon Simpson, Greg Merton and Jim Marohn Jr. each recorded doubles.
