Enrico AS pulls 11-1 upset in Open Trot at Dover
Dover, DE — Unheralded Enrico AS pulled an 11-1 surprise to win the $18,000 Open Trot at Dover Downs Wednesday. Corey Callahan recorded another four win day.
Leaving from the rail, Enrico AS took the early lead before yielding to race favorite I’m So Striking heading to the clubhouse turn. Trace Tetrick rushed Powerful Charger up to challenge and was head-to-head with I’m So Striking nearing the three-quarters before Eddie Dennis and I’m So Striking regained the front and after turning for home, Allan Davis taxied along the passing lane and the two dueled down the stretch until Enrico AS stuck his head out and took first money in 1:55. I Like My Boss finished third for Jonathan Roberts.
William Wood, Bill Dittmar and Steve Iaquinta own Enrico AS, an Allstar Hall-Caspian chestnut trained by Eric Ell. It was the gelding’s fourth win of the campaign raising his seasonal earnings to $57,260 and $228,788 lifetime.
Corey Callahan drove four winners, Vic Kirby and George Dennis had driving double, Nick Callahan, a trainer double.
Last week’s winner, Nova Artist leads top pacers in Thursday’s $25,000 Delaware Special.
