The Meadows
Buried behind a wall of horses, Sand Tilly Lace found room deep in the Lightning Lane to score a 10-1 upset victory in Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows. Sand Tilly Lace got away second for Dan Charlino but was shuffled to fourth at the top of the stretch. Charlino guided the 4-year-old daughter of Sand Shooter-Sara Toots to the Lightning Lane, where she outkicked Phone Terror by a head in 1:52.4 on a “good” surface. Bad Glamour Girl was third. With her fourth-place check, Do Me Honor soared over $600,000 in career earnings. Ron Burke trains Sand Tilly Lace, who extended her career bankroll to $184,988, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Elsewhere on the card, Rip This Joint won at first asking in 1:55.1, fastest this year by a 2-year-old pacing colt on a five-eighths-mile track. Dave Palone piloted the son of Western Terror-Cheryl Hanover for trainer Mike Palone and owner Lone Wolf Stable. Tony Hall drove three winners on the 12-race program.

Vernon Downs
Paul and Patricia O’Neil’s Godiva Seelster ($2.10) made good on a 1-20 promise, holding off steady pressure from The Filly Princess to prevail in Friday evening’s $10,000 Mares Open Pace at Vernon Downs. The 5-year-old Camluck mare worked clear of Purity (Greg Merton) after dueling through a :26.2 first quarter, continuing up the backstretch to a :54.4 half before bracing for a challenge from 8-1 second choice The Filly Princess (Chris Lems). Godiva Seelster accelerated upon facing the threat, holding a length advantage through a :28.1 third quarter and subsequently edging clear in deep stretch. She ultimately won by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:51.2 in rein to John MacDonald. Dan Hennessey trains Godiva Seelster, who scored her 18th career win. MacDonald also teamed up with Martinique ($2.90, 1:55.3), Express Jet ($8.20, 1:53.3), and My Lucky Word ($7.00, 1:57.1) for wins on the evening’s 13-race card. Live racing continues at Vernon Downs on Saturday (June 20) evening, with post time at 6:45 p.m. (EDT). Sunday (June 21) afternoon’s card kicks off at 1:15 p.m. and features the Empire Breeders Classic finals for 3-year-old trotters.

Saratoga Casino and Raceway
Net Revenue (Revenue S) became the only trotter to win both legs of the Spa Spring Claiming Series as the 7-year-old mare scored on the lead on Friday night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. Jordan Derue owns, trains and drives Net Revenue who moved out to the early lead in the $7,500 leg two division of the claiming series and never looked back. She heads into next Sunday’s (June 28) series final as the only trotter to record wins in both legs. On Friday night, Derue’s trotter covered the 1-1/16th mile distance in 2:06 just one week after setting a lifetime mark in leg one. In the other division contested on Friday night, Dangerismybusiness (Revenue S) paid immediate dividends for his new connections as he prevailed in 2:05.2 to punch his ticket to next Sunday’s $16,300 series final. Austin Siegelman piloted the 6-year-old trotter to a convincing victory at odds of 1-5 for trainer Kathleen Allen. Dangerismybusiness was claimed out of leg two of the series by trainer Phil Fluet who had the trotter for the last couple of seasons before the claim last week. The series final will be contested at a distance of 1-1/4 miles. Live racing continues on Saturday night at Saratoga featuring a Pick-5 carryover of $3,201. First post time is set for 6:45 p.m.
