Forever Ivy pulls off 20-1 shocker at Meadows

Washington, PAForever Ivy used her tactical speed to gain a good early seat, then overwhelmed the field with a powerful first-over bid to pull off a 20-1 shocker in Monday’s $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Trainer/driver Charlie Norris hustled Forever Ivy to the three hole in a demanding :26.1 opening quarter. Despite her early labors, the 4-year-old daughter of Stand Forever-She’s A Ruff One had plenty left to blow by the leader, Red Star Hottie, down the backside and draw off to score in a career-best 1:51. Save My Shark was second, 2-3/4 lengths back, while No Sugar Needed rallied for third. Rebecca Ewing owns Forever Ivy, who climbed past $100,000 in lifetime earnings.

Although Red Star Hottie faded from contention, she could draw some consolation from the outcome; her track record for 4-year-old pacing mares withstood Forever Ivy’s assault by a tick.

Dave Palone drove four winners on the 14-race card.

Harrington Raceway
Johnny Waite and Wade and Kathleen Wyatt’s Solano ($3.80, Corey Callahan) timed his charge perfectly to win Monday’s $20,000 Open at Harrington Raceway. The 5-year-old No Pan Intended stallion settled last early in the short field of five, before pulling second-over and grinding his way to the top in the final strides over pacesetting Art Gram. Print It finished third. It was the seventh win of the year for Solano, who has now banked more than $104,000 in 2010 for co-owner/trainer Waite. It was one of four driving winners for Callahan. Meanwhile, Victor Kirby and Ross Wolfenden each had driving triples.
