Giddy Up Lucky and driver Eric Goodell had just enough at the wire for his 14th win of the year.

Dover, DE — Giddy Up Lucky notched his 11th consecutive win in the $35,000 Preferred Pace on Monday at Dover Downs.

All six of Giddy Up Lucky’s rivals stacked up behind the leader, as this week’s elite field turned for home.

The 5-year-old Camluck-Sweet Art gelding and driver Eric Goodell had just enough at the wire in 1:52.1 to hold off a cavalcade of foes for his 14th win of the year to win by a head. Bettor Sweet came storming down the stretch with David Miller to fish second in front of Jeremy’s Successor and Sean Bier with the rest of the field immediately behind. Baron Racing Stable and one-time trainer David Rovine own Giddy Up Lucky in his closest finish in six races. It was the second winner for trainer Josh Green and Baron Racing Stable and the first of two wins for driver Eric Goodell.

The Meadows
Handsome Prince sat patiently behind the dueling leaders, then blazed through the Lightning Lane to capture Monday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows. With Golden Receiver on the point and Marty’s Charm challenging first-over, Handsome Prince and Brett Miller waited patiently in third through three-quarters that went in 1:25.2 on a track rated “good.” Ignoring the bone-chilling temperature and wind-whipped snow, Handsome Prince brushed inside to score in 1:53.3.Golden Receiver was second, a neck back, while Marty’s Charm saved show. Ron Burke trains Handsome Prince, a 5-year-old Grinfromeartoear-Nova Princess gelding who now boasts career earnings of $244,044, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and M1 Stable.

Harrah’s Chester
Neither wind nor cold temperatures stood in the way of John Barnard’s St Elmo Hero ($2.40), who won his 17th race in as many career starts in his $20,000 division of the Blue Route Late Closing pacing series on Monday (December 6) at Harrah’s Chester. The 4-year-old Western Hero gelding was a bit unsettled on the first turn before clearing No Monkeys Allowed (Yannick Gingras) en route to a :27.3 first quarter, but it was no looking back from that point. St Elmo Hero was unopposed through middle splits of :57.3 and 1:25, and was hand-driven through the stretch to hold clear of his pocket rival. Diablo Seelster (George Napolitano) leveled off facing the breeze but managed to hold third. St Elmo Hero won in 1:52.2 under TIm Tetrick, who notched four other wins on the afternoon. Meirs Hanover was the fastest Blue Route division winner, taking a powerful 1:51.1 clocking in rein to Yannick Gingras. Ab’s Attack ($3.20, Gingras, 1:53) and Aintnofoolsgold ($9.40, Tetrick, 1:53.1) also were victorious in their splits. The Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, and JJK Stables’ Lucky Bettor ($2.60) took the speed mark among a quintet of $25,000 I-95 Late Closing pacing series divisions, repelling a challenge from Cheyenne Barry to win in 1:51.3 under Yannick Gingras. While Jetty ($4.80, Napolitano, 1:52.2), Vertical Horizon ($6.80, Tetrick, 1:52.1), and Cinderella Guy ($5.80, Andy Miller, 1:51.4) also visited the winner’s circle. Mildred Ventriglio’s Warning Zone ($46.20) stole the show with a sweeping last-to-first move on the far turn to just nail odds-on favorite Riggins in 1:51.4 under Eric Goodell.
