Corey Callahan drove Gurf to a 1:56.2 win in the Open Trot.

Corey Callahan sped Gurf quickly past Nordic Venture in mid-backstretch and then opened up an impressive lead on the way to a 1:56.2 triumph in the top weekday trot. The Self Possessed-Tasty Chip 5-year-old was claimed early last meet after an injury-riddled 4-year-old campaign. Rosemary Smuts trains the gelding for Daivd Nelson. He now has won six times this year, earning $86,980. Spunky Vic came home fast for Tony Morgan to be second with Fivedollarsforsox (George Dennis) finishing third.

Tony Morgan, driving Man O Matic, found the passing lane to his advantage in nipping Batalj Launcher (Eric Goodell) in the last step for a 1:57.4 score in the $18,000 sub-featured trot. Nice Dream (Jim Morand) was the show finisher. Owned by trainer Tom Clendening, Alex Sauicke and Brad Rathbone, the SJ’s Caviar-Whitney Royal gelding won for the fourth time, lifting his seasonal earnings to $52,451.

Ross Wolfenden led the drivers with three wins.

The Meadows
Sitting pretty in the pocket behind Rembrandt Spur, Sir Caviar blew by in the lane to capture Wednesday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows — his 11th victory this year. Although Rembrandt Spur, a multiple track record holder, cut a relatively moderate front half in :57.3, Sir Caviar and Brian Zendt pounced in the lane, downing the game Rembrandt Spur by a length in 1:54. Triumphant Caviar, hampered by post nine, raced well for show. Leslie Zendt trains Sir Caviar, a 4-year-old SJ’s Caviar-Sierra Flower K gelding who has banked $121,089 in 2010, and owns with Bill Zendt. Dave Palone and Mike Wilder drove three winners on the 15-race card while Clay Faurot, Jr. enjoyed a training triple.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
Boo’s Boy, driven by George Napolitano, Jr., won the $15,000 claiming pace Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Trained by Carmine Fusco, the 9-year-old gelding went wire-to-wire in his latest start at the Northeastern Pennsylvania racetrack. Napolitano left quickly from the No. 5 post with Boo’s Boy, taking the nine-horse field to the opening split in :27, the half in :55.2 and the three-quarters in 1:23.2 before stopping the timer in 1:52. That time is a seasonal mark for Boo’s Boy. This marked the 11th win of the 2010 season for Boo’s Boy in 24 starts.
