Imagine Hanover wins third straight in Meadows series

Washington, PA — Imagine Hanover continued his march through the Ken Weaver Memorial Trot, rolling to his third straight series win Monday at The Meadows. Spicey Victor took the other $15,000, third-leg split in the event for 3- and 4-year-old trotting colts, horses and geldings.

The championship legs of the Ken Weaver and three other current series at The Meadows are set for Friday, March 28.

Hammered down to 1-9, Imagine Hanover was content to sit fourth until Brett Miller asked him for trot down the backside. The 4-year-old Broadway Hall-Imposing Hanover gelding gobbled up the leader, Glamrocker, and cruised home in 1:57.2. Glamrocker saved second, 4-1/4 lengths back, over Chekov. Del S. Miller trains Imagine Hanover for James Beluscak and Robert Carson.

Spicey Victor fronted the mile for Dave Palone and held off the Lightning Lane charge of Victorious Justice by a nose to notch his first series victory in a career-best 1:59.3. River Forest earned show. J.C. Miller, Jr. trains Spicey Victor, a 4-year-old Broadway Hall-Spicy Victoria gelding, for Holmes Stock Farm.

In the $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace, Foxy Lady commanded the mile with comfortable early fractions and captured her second straight victory in 1:53.3 for Dave Palone, trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables and Phillip Collura. Certified Ideal rallied from last for second, a length back, while Phone Terror earned show. The 6-year-old daughter of Real Desire-Judy Is A Fox soared over $700,000 in career earnings.

Brett Miller drove four winners and Palone three on the 15-race card.

A post position change was a help as Alexachase closed quickly for a 1:52.3 triumph in the St. Patrick’s Day $20,000 Mares Open Handicap on Monday, March 17 at Dover Downs. Ron Pierce drove five winners. With Ron Pierce and Jeremes Sweetheart cutting out the fast pace, Alexachase, who picked up lengths but not position change after starting from outside post 8 last week, closed strongly on the final turn and zoomed to a 1:52.2 victory in the distaff feature of the week. Bret Brittingham was at the controls of the fast-finishing 6-year-old by Bettor’s Delight-Jett Away who won for the third time in seven starts this year. She has won $30,600 this year and $337,103 lifetime for owners Kimberley and trainer Johnny Waite. Paradise Lost (Ross Wolfenden) was second with Jeremes Sweetheart holding on for third.
