Jersey Boy likes Delaware, wins second straight $20,000 Open Trot

Dover, DE — For the second straight week, Jersey Boy turned back seven rivals to score a 1:54.3 victory in the $20,000 Open Trot at Dover Downs.

Jersey Boy, with Trace Tetrick driving for trainer Ed Gannon, Jr. and owners Dom Costanzo, Dawn Gannon and Yannick Gingras, became the fourth and last horse to take the lead and matched his lifetime best of last Wednesday. The 4-year-old altered son of Yankee Glide-Atlanta Games notched his eighth win of the season and now has won $78,745 in 2013. Baximum (Daryl Bier) finished second ahead of Enrico AS (Allan Davis).

Walter Callam’s Spunky Jack, driven by Roger Plante, recorded a 1:55.4 score in the $15,000 Winners Over Trot. Steve Leblanc conditions the Super Punk-My Embrace 4-year-old gelding who racked up his ninth win of the year, helping to build his seasonal total to $84,036. Dalglish (Vic Kirby) closed strongly along the passing lane to finish second. I’m So Striking (Eddie Dennis) took show money.

Vic Kirby led all drivers with four wins, Tony Morgan had three, while Corey Callahan and Trace Tetrick added two wins each.

Perfect Chance made it look easy on the front end once more, ripping off her second straight victory in Wednesday’s $16,500 Filly and Mare winners over $10,000 life trot. Although parked the opening panel in :28, Perfect Chance had little trouble thwarting the first-over challenge of True Day Dream for Dave Palone and scoring in 1:55.3. Even money favorite Daylon Miracle finished second, two lengths back, while Definitely Mamie was third. Ron Burke trains Perfect Chance, a 6-year-old daughter of Andover Hall-Perfect Patty who extended her career bankroll to $393,059, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Palone drove six winners — three for Burke — on the 16-race card.
