Joey The Jet JT scored in 1:55 in the Open Handicap Trot.

Corey Callahan pulled Joey The Jet JT to the outside to follow Man About Town and Tony Morgan who were challenging leader Daryl Bier-driven Starsel at the three-quarters. They then moved three wide on the final turn to accelerate in the stretch for a 1:55 triumph. Ken Wood and Bill Dittmar own the Wesgate Crown-NV Becky gelding, now a winner of $135,970 this year. Starsel held on for second with Man About Town collecting show money. Lolique’s five-race win streak came to an end with a fourth place finish.

Ron Pierce ushered JM Vangogh into the lead on the backstretch and then pulled off a 1:56.1 victory in the $22,000 Jr. Open Trot. The victory was the eighth of the year for the $1.8-million winning 9-year-old, a son of Earl-Queen Tut. He is owned by trainer Paul Chambers and Laureta Mello. Impel Hanover closed with conviction for Jim King to finish second, beaten by a half-length. Fivedollarsforsox came on for third with George Dennis in the bike.

Lauren Allen’s Rose Run Flash, with Mike Cole driving, won the $15,500 trot for the second straight week in 1:57. Copper Harbor (Carlo Poliseno), the only 3-year-old in the nine-horse field, finished second. Tug River Man (Ross Wolfenden) was third.

Ron Pierce, Corey Callahan and Ross Wolfenden, 1-2-3 in the track’s driver standings, had two wins each.

Big night for Devaux and Byler at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY — Driver Jim Devaux and trainer Andrew Byler have teamed up to have a good year at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway and on a special Wednesday night program, they may have had their best night of the season.

Harmonizer was one of four winning drives for Jim Dexaux.

Devaux, who finished in the top five in last year’s driver standings, had one of his top nights as he swept the Pick Three. Byler’s Venable and Summer Ran bookended the Pick Three with BJ’s Charge King in between. All three trotters recorded front running wins on the Wednesday program.

The 12th race belonged to Devaux and Byler again as Harmonizer was yet another trotter who set a career best on the rainy evening in the Spa city.

Live racing resumes on Friday night with a first post of 7:05 p.m.
