Keystone Thomas and Tarver Hanover win co-features at Tioga

Nichols, NY — Keystone Thomas and Tarver Hanover won the Sunday co-features at Tioga Downs.

Keystone Thomas picked up his seventh win of the year, fourth at Tioga, for driver/trainer Bruce Ranger. Ranger positioned the 4-year-old gelded son of Revenue S-Yankee Taboo in the pocket behind pacesetting Katie’s Red Rose and was then able to angle him out at the top of the stretch to stop the timer in 1:57. Ranger posted three wins on the day, two with his own trainees.

Sam Schillaci won the second of the co-features with Tarver Hanover and his front end speed. Tarver Hanover left from the six hole and cruised through fractions of :26.3, :55.4 and 1:23.4 before crossing the line first in 1:53.2. It was the fifth win of the year for the 9-year-old son of Ball And Chain-Tarport Herald for the Wiz Kids Stable. The win gave Schillaci a driving/training double.

Oh No Three O won his third race in four career starts with a 3-year-old gelding track record time of 1:55.2. The Jeffrey Long trainee was sent off as the 4-5 favorite even with a class jump from the non-winners of two pari-mutuels to the non-winners of $6,000. Once the dust settled past the quarter, driver Fern Paquet, Jr. made it look easy by easing the eventual race winner first over to the lead, clearing just past the half and opening up for the track record win.

Racing returns this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with New York State Fair action. The top 3-year-olds in New York will battle it out on Saturday and Sunday for estimated purses of more than $400,000.
