Kinnder Jackson upsets at H3R

Trois-Rivieres, QC — Kinnder Jackson with driver Justin Filion, moved first-over against Stock and blew right by them on the final turn in capturing the C$10,000 second round of the Breeders Cup Series at the Hippodrome 3R Sunday (July 29).

Kinnder Jackson upsets at odds of 9-1 at H3R on Sunday afternoon.

The eighth race co-feature for 3-year-old harness racing pacing colts saw the overwhelming race favorite, 1-5 Hudson Phil, go off-stride for driver Clarke Steacy at the start of the race.

That opened the race right away as Big Mach and driver Guy Gagnon shot out to the early lead, but it was last year’s champion, Stock, who pressed to the front for driver Stephane Brosseau and led the field at the opening quarter mile in :28.

They raced that way past the half in :57.4, but at the three-quarters in 1:27.1, driver Justin Filion was sitting third with Kinnder Jackson and moved him to the outside and the son of American Ideal took off and grabbed control of the lead by the top of the stretch.

From that point on, Kinnder Jackson was not going to be caught, drawing off to win by six and one-quarter lengths in 1:56.1. Stock was second with Power Fog (Pierre Luc Roy) third. Kinnder Jackson paid $21.90 to win.

Bred, owned and trained by Denitza Petrova of Melbourne, it was the second straight win for Kinnder Jackson and his sixth win in seven starts this year. He is now tied with Requested as the two winningest horses at H3R this year with six wins each.

In the second race, the first of the two Breeders Cup divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies, Katniss S BG ($3.00) and driver Pascal Berube make it two straight wins in the series. The daughter of Mach Three, bred and owned by Sylvain Descheneaux and Gaston Bibeau of Sorel-Tracy and trained by Richard Moreau saw Lit De Rose and driver Pierre Luc Roy shoot to the early lead by the opening quarter in :27.2.

Berube then moved Katniss S BG first-over and with a major burst of speed, took the lead away from Lit De Rose before the half mile in :57.4. From there Berube held the field at bay, leading at the three-quarters in 1:26.4 before opening up to win by 5-1/4 lengths in 1:56.1. Lit De Rose was second with D Gs Shadowbell (Jonathan Lachance) third.

The fifth race second filly division saw Butterfly BG ($3.90) and driver Guy Gagnon go wire-to-wire by one length in 1:59.3 over the pocket-sitting Sharks Summrshandy (Pascal Berube) with Perfect Glory (Sylvain Lacaille) a game third after racing first-over in the backstretch.

It was the second straight win and third on the season for Butterfly BG. The Sportswriter filly is trained by Gagnon, bred and owned by Gaston Bibeau of Sorel-Tracy.

The Invitational-Handicap Pace in the third race saw the return to H3R of three-time Quebec Champion, Atomic Million AM, and he came home not to lose.

Atomic Million AM ($2.50) and driver Guy Gagnon came after Chaleurs Ad (Kevin Maguire) and took command at the quarter mile in :26.2. From there it was all Atomic Million Am. Gagnon kept his steed in control passing the three-quarters in 1:24.4 and then drew off in the stretch for the race fans, winning by four open lengths in 1:53.4. Solid Performance (Pascal Berube) was second with Windsun Cheyenne (Marie Auger) third.

It was the third win this year for Atomic Million AM, a 7-year-old gelding by Million Dollar Cam, who now has career earnings of more than C$278,000 for breeder, owner and trainer, Alain Martin.

Driver Pascal Berube took 9-1 Montana Ben three-wide in the backstretch the final time and looped the field, taking the lead away from Clever Thing (Tyler Jones), then scoring a five and one-half length romp in the two-mile at H3R. The time of the race was 4:06, nearly four seconds slower than the world and track record at H3R. For Montana Ben, the six-year-old gelding by Western Terror posted his first win in 19 starts this year for trainer Marc Andre Simmoneau and paid $21.80 to win. He is owned by Francois Morin of Beauceville. Brusslebeach (Maxim Gaudreault) was second with Clever Thing third.

Track Notes: This was the last live race program at H3R for the next two weeks due to the Grand Prix car racing that takes over most of the town of Trois-Rivieres. The next live program will be a special one on Thursday (Aug. 9), when H3R hosts the C$120,000 finals of the Quebec-Bred Series for 4-and 5-year-old trotters and pacers. There will be four championship races, each going for a purse of C$30,000.

Harrah’s Philadelphia

Perched third-over up the far side, Independent One ($4.60) circled four-wide en route to a 1:51.4 win in Sunday afternoon’s (July 29) $17,000 featured pace at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
After racing second from last in the early stages while Xpert Bayama (Corey Callahan) and Commentariat (Andy McCarthy) disputed the lead through fractions of :26.4 and :54.4, Simon Allard angled the 4-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding third-over up the far side into a late-developing outer flow. As Rough Odds (George Napolitano Jr.) advanced to press Xpert Bayama on the far turn after a :28.2 third sectional, Independent One stayed right on the helmet of Drinkin Again (Eric Carlson), who swung three-wide to the lead an eighth from home. Independent One vaulted clear as the pace collapsed and beat Drinkin Again by 1-1/4 lengths, while Sossy’s King Kong (Brett Miller) rallied from astern to take third. Independent One captured his sixth career win for trainer Vincent Fusco Jr. In addition to handling the driving duties, Allard shares ownership of Independent One with Bruce Soulsby, Allen Weisenberg and Niss Allen Inc. Trainer Lou Peña recorded his 3,000th career win in one of two $14,500 sub-featured events, teaming up with Eric Carlson for a 1:52.1 victory with Skyful Of Lighters ($29.40). The 7-year-old Bettor’s Delight gelding was left uncovered with a circuit to go, sustained progress up the backstretch, and wore down pacesetter Cyamach N (Pat Berry) to win by half a length. José Cervantes owns the 20-time winner. The other sub-featured pace saw Rock The Nite ($6.80, Napolitano) dig deep to parry a stern first-over threat from Grand Teton (Andy McCarthy) to earn his 18th career win in 1:50. Andrew Harris trains the 6-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding for Robert Key. Multiple players hit the afternoon’s 20-cent Jackpot Hi-5 in race five, resulting in a carryover of $1,072.27 to Wednesday afternoon’s (Aug. 1) card. First post is scheduled for 12:25 p.m.

Running Aces
The Sunday evening (July 29) program at Running Aces featured 3-year-old Minnesota-sired trotters in action, with two divisions of the sophomore square-gaiters. The $8,500 colts and geldings division went to Bringoverthemoney (Rick Magee) who has absolutely dominated the 3-year-old trotting scene in Minnesota this year. The Money Talks gelding out of the Overcomer mare Bringitover has now won seven races in 11 trips to the gate, with six consecutive wins. Bringoverthemoney ($2.20) is trained by Brian Detgen for owner Jasmine Horvat and was bred by Katrina Horvat. He seems to get better and better with every win, and lowered his lifetime mark to 1:57 with the 6-1/4 length victory on Sunday. Bringoverthemoney appears to be poised to continue to roll through the next six or seven weeks and looks well on his way to the Minnesota championship races on Sept. 15. The $8,500 fillies division of the 3-year-old trot went to Dekker, the dominant filly of 2018. She is a daughter of Braggart and is out of the Muscles Yankee mare Caffeine Freak. Dekker (Rick Magee) was bred by AL-Mar Farms and is trained by Justin Anfinson for owners Jesse, Eric and Ben De Long. Dekker picked up her third win in a row while lowering her lifetime best by two full seconds to 1:58.2 for her sixth win of the season in eight starts. The $10,000 Winners Over Pace went to Bettor’s Promise (Lemoyne Svendsen) who had a rough, overland trip in the $50,000 Dan Patch FFA final last week and bounced back with a very impressive gate-to-wire dominating win in 1:51.4 with a strong final stanza of :27.3. Bettor’s Promise is a 7-year-old gelding by Bettor’s Delight, trained by Jessie Pacheco for owners Richard Morita and David Yamada. He now sports seven wins in 24 starts this year with $38,122 in the bank. The 7-year-old Revenue gelding Margin Call trotted up a storm from the back of the pack in the $5,600 conditioned trot to pick up his second win of the season in 1:58 for trainer/driver Rick Magee. Margin Call ($16.20) turned in the fastest trotting final quarter of the night with his :28.4 signature closing kick. He is owned by Mikaela Delgiudice and was bred by Perretti Farms. The victory on Sunday pushed his career earnings to $72,059 with 16 career wins and 41 top three performances from 76 starts. Rick Magee led the night off with a sweep of the first three races on the program, while Mooney Svendsen also picked up a hat trick and James Yoder and Gerald Longo both picked up doubles on the card. Live racing returns to Running Aces on Tuesday evening (July 31) with a carryover of $6,413.29 in the 20-cent Jackpot Pick-5 wager. First post on Tuesday is 7 p.m. (CDT).
