Lofty Widget wins again in $26,000 feature at Dover

Dover, DE — Lofty Widget continued her impressive record at Dover Downs, winning for the third time in four starts, this time taking the $26,000 Mares Open Handicap with a 1:53 performance.

Lofty Widget stopped Alice’s Restaurant by a half-length in the Mares Open Handicap.

Corey Callahan drove Lofty Widget between horses in deep stretch to streak to a 1:53 victory in the week’s top distaff event. Owned by Gary Evans and Foulk Stables, Lofty Widget stepped up after a win last week in the $22,000 Mares Jr. Open to win for the third time this meet with two seconds and a third in her six races. G. Brit Evans trains the 7-year-old Pacific Fella-Lofty Aspirations mare. Another steady female, Alice’s Restaurant, driven by Tony Morgan, finished second for the third consecutive time. Gabrielles Girl closed fast for Eric Goodell to finish third. The win was Callahan’s second of three on the program.

Alpine Gold N made it two victories in her last four starts, winning the $22,000 Mares Jr. Open. Tim Curtin drove the Life Sign-Double Rose 6-year-old from off the pace, coming three wide around the final turn and then passing Pacific Philly, who was second with Eddie Davis, Jr., and leader Kellytuck Sophie and Jon Roberts (the third place finishers) in deep stretch for the 1:53.1 win. Kathleen Beegle, Neil Chesen and Wayne Hurtibise own the winner.
