Lorrie Please (#2 on inside) held off Rock N Load by a nose.

Starting from an inside post did not hurt the 6-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-National Gallery in gaining her second win of the year along with four seconds and two thirds.

Eric Carlson quickly took Lorrie Please to the lead and continued to fight off challengers en route to victory, winning an extremely tight photo from hard-charging Rock N Load (Roger Plante). Megs Breeze (Jonathan Roberts) took show honors.

Allen and Ira Kaplan and David Sheib own the winner, who has earned $37,495 in 2013 and $321,040 in her career.

Northfield Park
Custers Last Stand paced home for his third straight win on Monday in Northfield Park’s 13th race. The 5-year-old is owned by the Northfiled Park Wall of Famer Gerald Bookmyer and is trained by Pat Karcher. Jason Thompson has driven the gelding for all three of his most recent victories. Custers Last Stand was fifth though a contested opening quarter of :27. Thompson pulled second over and drafted through fractions of :56 and 1:26.1 before tipping off his cover at the top of the stretch, winning by three-quarters of a length and stopping the clock in 1:57.1. Monday’s triumph increased Custers Last Stand’s (Stand Forever-Lady Al-Albert Albert) lifetime wins tally to 11 and his career earnings to $20,775. Despite two previous victories, Custers Last Stand returned $36.40 to win.
