Lucky Man captures Open Handicap at Yonkers

Yonkers, NY — Odds-on choice Lucky Man (George Brennan) lasted on the lead Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway’s $38,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Lucky Man (5) was a winner by a nose in Saturday’s Open Handicap at Yonkers Raceway.

In a field reduced to a half-dozen, half of those were on the line together.

Lucky Man, leaving from post position No. 4 (in one notch), was left to his own devices through fractions of :26.3 and :56.2. Nob Hill high (Dan Dube) was pocketed, with Tobago Cays (Cat Manzi) uncovered toward a 1:23.4 three-quarters.

Lucky Man owned a half-length lead entering the lane, those three was begin to close ranks nearing the 1:51.3 mile marker. It was a certified bang-bang finish, with Lucky Man–in between his foes–winning by a nose in 1:59.1 for the mile-and-one-sixteenth. Second went to Tobago Cays, with Nob Hill High a passing-lane third.

Southern Allie (Yannick Gingras) and Andy Roo (Tim Tetrick) completed the cashers, while Money Twitch A (Andy Miller) was outrun.

For Lucky Man, a 6-year-old Camluck gelding owned by Thomas Hill and trained by Casie Coleman, he returned $3.40 for his fifth win in 25 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $17.80, with the triple returning $50.50.

Dover Downs
Braden made in three-wins in-a-row with 1:54 triumph in the $15,500 3-4&5-Year-Old feature pace on Saturday, Dec. 17, at Dover Downs. Jon Roberts drove the Bobby Glassmeyer owned and trained Braden, who won for the third time this year, all at Dover Downs, in the last Saturday feature race of the current 2011 season. The Arts Clip-Tammy C Tresa gelded 3-year-old arrived in the Glassmeyer barn only last month and has won each of his three starts. Intrepid Hall (Daryl Bier) was runner-up with Sometimes Regrets (Ross Wolfenden) the show finisher.

Cal-Expo
Four pacers in to be claimed and two in on a condition were featured at Cal Expo on Saturday night (December 17) in the Cliff Shurman Memorial, on which Marlin Hanover won his third in the last four. Drawing clear when urged, Marlin Hanover would clearly hold firm to win ($3.80) by 1-3/4 lengths. Owned by Richard Morita & David Yamada, the Liberio Pacheco trained pacer stopped the timer at 1:56. Hi Ho Hi Ho was a good second, and Ivegotwhatuneed (Lemoyne Svendsen) finished one-length farther back, in third.
