Mamas Fallen Angel, Seashell Hanover repeat in Meadows series

Washington, PA — Mamas Fallen Angel and Seashell Hanover each captured her second straight split in Friday’s (April 18) Do Me Honor Pace at The Meadows, setting up a showdown in next week’s championship leg of the series for 3-year-old fillies.

Americangirlfriend took the other $17,500 series division, giving Tony Hall a series double behind Americangirlfriend and Mamas Fallen Angel.

Looped from the gate, Mamas Fallen Angel had little trouble disposing of the field, widening her lead around the final turn. She triumphed geared down in 1:54, 4-1/2 lengths better than A And G’s Delight, with Bet On Me Hanover third. Norm Parker trains the daughter of Well Said-Latte Lady for Megan Rogers Racing Stables.

Seashell Hanover experienced a similar trip, working hard to get the early lead but drawing off late. The 1-5 favorite opened up in the stretch for Dave Palone to score in 1:54.3, 3-3/4 lengths ahead of Eloquent Velocity. Baby Cat earned show. Ron Burke conditions the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Stolly Up Bluechip for William Switala, James Martin and Joseph Critelli.

In the $20,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace, Twilight Bonfire moved three wide from the three-quarters to nail Windsong Jack at the wire in 1:51 for Hall, trainer Rich Gillock and owner/breeder Bob Key. Early leader Outrageous Art finished third. The 4-year-old son of The Panderosa-Firelight Dancer extended his career bankroll to $940,840.

Buffalo Raceway
Armed Dangerously ($5.60) was locked and loaded in the $10,500 Open Trot at Buffalo Raceway Friday night and scored a convincing length victory over Stormont O My in 1:59.3.
Using a first over trip, Armed Dangerously (Ray Fisher, Jr.) effortlessly trotted to the lead at the three-quarter pole and played ‘catch me if you can’ from there. The 5-year-old horse opened up a comfortable two length edge at the top of the stretch and was never in jeopardy of losing it from there. Stormont O My (Drew Monti) rallied for the place position while Fiorentina (Kevin Cummings), the pace setter, finished third. Owned by Michael Torcello and trained by Gerry Sarama, Armed Dangerously (Cash Hall-Drive You Wild) has now won four times in nine appearances in 2014, earning $20,038 this season and $166,545 lifetime. It was the second straight racing night the Torcello/Sarama combination has won the feature race at Buffalo Raceway as Delightful Syd took the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Open Pace on Wednesday evening.

Vernon Downs
Tracking from the pocket before unleashing a lethal stretch kick, Kelly Hope’s Rocks N Bagels ($5.10) proved a dominant 1:50.4 winner in Friday night’s $8,000 Miracle Mile 2 event for distaff pacers at Vernon Downs. The 6-year-old Rocknroll Hanover mare drafted behind the pacesetting Asset Management (Fern Paquet, Jr.) before angling out in upper stretch, drawing clear for an 8-1/2 length win over a late-gaining Got The Munchies (John MacDonald). Rocks N Bagels turned in a :26.2 final quarter as part of a :53.4 last half in rein to Aaron Byron for trainer Jordan Hope. The featured trotting event of the evening was an $8,000 Miracle Mile 2 event as well, with Jerry Clark’s Jaipur ($4.30) kicking cover for a neck win over House Money (Roman Lopez) in 1:53.4 for driver Fern Paquet, Jr. and trainer Jamie Paquet. The Catherine Burton trotting series kicked off as well with four $4,000 first-round divisions. Ray Schnittker trainees Indira Blue Chip (1:56.1) and Corsair Hall (1:57.2) prevailed in their splits, while Driving Miss Crazy (1:55.4) and Keystone Sadie (1:57.1) also proved victorious.

Saratoga Casino and Raceway
Slugfest prevailed for the third consecutive week in the Friday night Open Trot at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The Maureen Salino-trained trotter has started out his season on a tear. After finishing second in his first start back in March, Slugfest (Conway Hall) has rattled off three straight wins on the front end with Jay Randall in the sulky. This week, the local trotting star had to overcome post position eight but marched out to the early lead in :28.4 and never looked back before stopping the timer in 1:58.1. Pocket sitter Obrigado (Kim Crawford) finished second while Just Make Believe (Stephane Bouchard) earned the show spot. Slugfest returned $8.00 to win as he completed his hat trick.
