Dover, DE — Monochromatic chalked up her second straight $23,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace victory by holding off fast finishing Alexachase for a 1:53 win on Monday at Dover Downs.

Monochromatic was a 1:53 winner in the Mares Open Handicap at Dover.

Corey Callahan left with Monchromatic and finally took the lead after the opening quarter. The Dream Away-Miss Ty 8-year-old led the select field the rest of the mile to score her fourth Open triumph of the meet for North State Street Stable.

Meanwhile, Alexachase, racing sixth and last, came to the outside for Bret Brittingham and rolled three wide, closing with a rush to within a half-length of the winner to finish second. Another neck back in third was Rock N Load with Roger Plante.

Monochromatic has now won 35 races and $574,870 lifetime.

In the $16,000 Mares Winners Over Pace, Vic Kirby won his second of the day, steering Rich Lester and trainer Tony Domino’s Alice’s Restaurant home in 1:52 for her second win in three 2013 races.

A 6-1 shot, Alice’s Restaurant, racing on the outside on the backstretch, moved three-wide heading into the last turn and roared past the leaders in the stretch for a 1:52 victory. It was her 30th career win and lifts her lifetime bankroll to $522,653. Race favorite Angelwithnattitude (Corey Callahan) finished second. McSauna (Tim Tetrick) was third.

Meet leader Corey Callahan, who leads all 2013 harness drivers, had four wins. Tim Tetrick won three and Ron Pierce two. Meet leading trainer Mike Hall had a double.
