Nine Innings finds redemption in Beckwith Consolation

Driver/Trainer Todd Whitney guided Nine Innings to a 1:53.4 victory in the Beckwith Consolation.

Norwood, MA — After last weeks Beckwith eliminations at Plainridge Racecourse, Todd Whitney wanted to make amends because he knew that the race last week was not Nine Innings style of racing, so Whitney entered him to race in the consolation on Tuesday.

He left from post number four in the seven horse field and proceeded to wire the field in 1:53.4, which was 4/5 of a second faster than both eliminations heats went last week.

“Last week was just a poor performance and I am glad that we were able to make up for it today,” Whitney said.

The time was a new lifetime best for the 4-year-old gelding who paid $6.60.

The Meadows
Used twice in a wicked 25.4 opening quarter, Transcending nevertheless had plenty in the tank for the stretch drive as he captured Tuesday’s $22,500 Preferred Pace at The Meadows. He scored in 1:50.3, a length better than Fox Valley Armor, with the first-over Drumfire A third. Ron Burke trains Transcending, who now boasts lifetime earnings of $338,108 for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables and Larry Karr. It was one of Dave Palone’s six victories — three for Burke — on the 13-race card.

Harrington Raceway
Andrea Hill’s Chausettes Blanche ($6.40, Sean Bier) scored her fifth win of the season Tuesday, by capturing the $20,000 Mares Open in 1:53.2. ‘Blanche’ launched her move late as pacesetter Ireneonthemove gave way approaching three-quarters. Bier and Chausettes Blanche were the first on the outside to pounce as Ash Larue closed ground for second and Miami Diva N was a late arriving third. Meanwhile driver Corey Callahan registered six winners on the program. The draw for the 4th Annual Bobby Quillen Memorial takes place Wednesday September 8. Entries will be taken by calling the race office at 302-398-5970 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Eliminations (if necessary) will be held Monday September 13 with the $315,000 (est.) Final taking place September 20.
