Nova Artist wins Delaware Special at Dover

Dover, DE — Nova Artist won the $27,500 Delaware Special with a convincing 1:49.2 triumph, the fastest clocking, on a fast Thursday, Nov. 14 card at Dover Downs.

On the heels of a come from behind 1:51.2 victory last week, Nova Artist, reined by Allan Davis, took the lead after a:26.2 opening quarter and then was never challenged winning for the eighth time this year. Mustang Art, with Ron Pierce, finished second with Eagle All and Ross Wolfenden third. Nova Artist brings his seasonal earnings to $149,850 for owners Eddie and Kathy Davis. The Real Artist-Avon Lady 6-year-old has won 30 times and banked $752,167 lifetime.

For horsemen John Hogan and Greg Brewster Thursday’s seventh race finish at Plainridge Racecourse couldn’t have turned out better. Hogan, who has been in the bike since he was 16, and Brewster have been friends since their teens. Hogan’s Mountain Air wired the field in a blistering 1:56.1 while Brewster’s horse, Life Of Roddy, which he co-ownes with Mario Martellotta, Sr., was second in a photo. Martellotta also drove Faith’s Tattler to the winner’s circle in the New England Amateur Drivers Club third race. Hogan, who has competed against the best drivers and trainers over the years, began this season with 4,658 career wins, was born and raised in Marlborough, Mass., before moving o Aygle, N.Y. Brewster also hails from Marlborough and purchased two horses shortly after his retirement from the police department. He has held a training license for more than 30 years. He is taking tests to becomie a racing official. The hometown 1-2 punch came on the meet’s closing day for live racing.
