Nuclear Attraction scores with sizzling mile Sunday at Colonial Downs

New Kent, VA — Nuclear Attraction scored a wire-to-wire victory in Sunday’s $5,500 winners over pacing feature at Colonial Downs and shaved a full second off the 1:49.4 previous best he authored a week ago.

Nuclear Attraction was a 1:48.4 winner on Sunday.

The 4-year-old Nuclear Breeze gelding faced four other foes including Smile A Little, who was fresh off a new life mark of 1:49.3 he set last Sunday as well. Corey Braden, who earned his fourth win of the day behind Nuclear Attraction, gained control of the field early and never looked back. After early fractions of :26.2, :53.3 and 1:21, he stopped the clock in 1:48.4 on a warm and sunny day, 2-3/4 lengths over runner-up Smile A Little.

Nuclear Attraction is trained by Brian Malone for Orville Harmon. In a trio of starts at Philadelphia between July 23 and August 28, he finished eighth in all three, losing respectively by 16, 11 and 21 lengths. He is two-for-two in Virginia, both in sub-1:50 times.

Colonial Downs is dark Monday and Tuesday. Live racing returns on Wednesday with a 10-race card beginning at 1 p.m.

Hippodrome 3R
Unbeaten Boogie Panic, despite having to start from the second tier in post nine, made a valiant first-over move to the lead and then scored his sixth straight harness racing victory Sunday at the Hippodrome 3R. The bulky field of nine pacers in the featured tenth race got away and Boogie Panic with driver Denis St. Pierre was in seventh place on the outside as Magic Touch Cybele and driver Pascal Berube took the early lead away from B D Levrard (Stephane Brosseau) by the opening quarter in :27.3. Magic Touch Cybele then led the field to the half-mile marker in :57.3 as St. Pierre kept Boogie Panic on the outside and had moved into second place and by the backstretch had cleared to the lead. Boogie Panic then started to open up on the field and led by five lengths at the three-quarters in 1:26.1 and then poured it on, winning by seven open lengths at the wire in 1:57.1. Bemmol Kalie was second with Anamazingdream Esa third. Having raced his early career only at the Hippodrome 3R, Boogie Panic paid $2.40 to win for trainer Francis Richard. The son of Major In Art was bred and is owned by Brian Paquet. The Hippodrome 3R oval was in perfect form from the start of the racing card as 2-year-old trotting colt William Star and driver Sylvain Lacaille missed tying the track record for colt trotters by one-fifth of a second in 2:01.4. It was the second win in three lifetime starts for the son of Windsong Espoir. Then in the ninth race pace, track record holder Hall Bro and driver Stephane Brosseau romped as they led from start to finish and won by 9-1/2 lengths in 1:54.2. It was the ninth win this year for the 3-year-old gelding by Blissfull Hall who paid just $2.40 to win for trainer Antonio Valente.
