Pathian (4) won Wednesday’s feature at The Meadows at 49-1.

AlthoughPathian had been sharp in conditioned races, she hadn’t beaten the track’selite distaff pacers. That all changed when she picked up the live cover ofPrincess Pablano, overtook her in deep stretch and defeated her by a neck forAaron Merriman in 1:57.2 on a “good” surface. She Nuit rallied for show.

Jamie Coffyowns and trains Pathian, a 7-year-old daughter of Classic Photo-Blazing Glasswho pushed her career bankroll to $108,087.

Tony Hallpiloted four winners on the 13-race card.

Pathian’simprobable win contributed to a $22,931.41 three-day carryover in the Pick-5,which prompted The Meadows to establish a $40,000 total-pool guarantee for Saturday’sPick-5 (races 8-12). First post Saturday is 1 p.m..

Dover Downs
Go Byem recorded his first win in the New Year besting seven foes to score a 1:53.2 victory while Moonlight Cocktail won her fourth straight on the Wednesday, Feb. 1 feature trots. In the $15,000 4&5-Year-Old Winners-Over trot, Jim Morand pulled Go Byem out of fourth in mid-backstretch and quickly challenged leader Celebrity Pegasus after the three-quarters when Celebrity Pegasus, last week’s winner, suddenly made a misstep. Go Byem dashed home holding off Earl’s Speeder (Corey Callahan) second and fast-finishing Royal Becca J (Jack Parker Jr.) third. Go Byem is owned by Delbert Cain and Nanticoke Racing. Usually well-backed at Dover where in his six previous starts, the impel Hanover-Go Sassy Go gelding had one win, a second, two thirds and a fourth. Tony Morgan and Corey Callahan drove three wins each while trainer Dylan Davis haltered three. Vic Kirby and Yannick Gingras had two wins as did trainers Leigh Raymer and Les Givens.

Pompano Park
Wild Wanda, with Ricky Macomber, Jr. in the bike, won a wild finish in Pompano Park’s $11,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace on Wednesday (Feb. 1) night, holding off Pertty Music (George Napolitano, Jr.) by a scant head in 1:52.1. Jets Are On (Wally Hennessey), closed fastest of all in the race–:27.2—to finish third just a half-length away after being last much of the mile. OK Heavenly finished fourth, 1-3/4 lengths away while Metro Glide finished a late-charging fifth, just two lengths back in the tightly knitted field of six. At the outset, it was a wild scramble for supremacy as Wild Wanda outdueled Yes You Can before yielding to Pertty Music just a few strides past the :27.1 opener. Around turn two, Macomber pulled on his mare’s right line and she was quickly up to regain control past the half in :56. The pace quickened on the backside with Wild Wanda pacing her third quarter in :27.3 to reach the third station in 1:23.3 with Pertty Music now edging a closer second, Yes You Can two lengths further back. In the lane, Wild Wanda was put to the test as Pertty Music began gnawing away with Jets Are On finally finding her way off the pylons and sweeping up on the outside. In that aforementioned wild finish, Wild Wanda found the wire first with Pertty Music just a head away. After the event, driver Ricky Macomber, Jr. remarked, “I was a little worried when we hit the final turn because last week, she really didn’t finish her mile like she usually does and the three-quarters was in that same time—1:23.3. This week, she dug in a little better and held off George’s (Napolitano) mare (Pertty Music). They both raced well and Wally’s mare (Jets Are On) came flying, too.” Trained by Jamie Macomber for Mary Jo Rheinheimer and the Dojea Stables, the 6-year-old daughter of Palone Ranger won for the 25th time during her career, sending her lifetime bounty to $335,995–$11,880 in her three starts so far in 2017. As the slight favorite at 6-5 on the tote-board, Wild Wanda returned a $4.60 mutuel to her faithful. Racing continues on Saturday night with a memorial event honoring the late, great horseman, Frank ’Mara. O’Mara recently passed away at the age of 84 after a grand career that included such stars as Nite Shirt, Timely’s Best Man, Keystone Accent and Mystic Park. The O’Mara Memorial is carded as the second race on the Saturday night program

Buffalo Raceway
My Tallia Ideal and driver David McNeight III knew if theywanted to win Buffalo Raceway’s featured $10,000 Open pace for mares onWednesday night (Feb. 1), their best chance was going to come on the front-end.That tactic proved to be ideal as My Tallia Ideal set all the fractions andturned back Kaitlyn Rae by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:57.2 over the good track. Thefavored and front-running Wanna Rock N Roll, who was assigned the six post, entered the event on a five-race win streak. It began like it might be aninstant replay of previous races by Wanna Rock N Roll as driver Drew Monti wentstraight to the top off the starting gate with her. But that advantage wasshort-lived as My Tallia Ideal, who started on the pylons, wanted no part of apocket trip and retook the lead on the give-and-go. Setting the splits of29.0, 59.2 and 1:28.1, My Tallia Ideal ($5.40) put away from the fading WannaRock N Roll in the stretch and cruised to a comfortable victory. Kaitlyn Rae(Larry Stalbaum), the winner of last week’s Open for the ladies, was secondwith Missevil (Shawn Gray) taking third in the battle for minor spoils. Co-ownedby Pete Kibler, Ken Owczarczak and Courtney McNeight, the 7-year-old mare(Western Ideal-Bolero Tallia) scored her first victory in four attempts thisseason. It pushed her seasonal winnings to $7,900 and $255,181 lifetime. DavidMcNeight Jr. handles the training duties.

Drew Monti finished the night with a four-bagger, Stalbaumhad a triple while Ray Fisher Jr. had a double. Trainer David Russo found thewinner’s circle three times with JD Perrin, Rose Russo and Kimberly Asher eachproducing a pair of victories.
