Petes Elect A captures Sunday Tioga feature

Nichols, NY — It was a thrilling finish in the top test for Open pacers on Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs with seven horses on the wire separated by just a length, but Petes Elect A had his nose on the wire first in a time of 1:53.4.

Petes Elect A (#2) was a 1:53.4 winner in the $15,000 Open Handicap Pace.

The action started when heavy favorite Sheer Brilliance, assigned post position number nine, left the gate and found himself three wide past the opening quarter in :27.1. Tyler Buter had Art’s Special Boy hot on the front, parking out Eagle Real One through a half in :54.3 as Sheer Brilliance cleared three wide to get up alongside the leader.

The duo continued to battle, tripping the three-quarter timer in 1:24 but the backfield was in motion. Howard Parker and Petes Elect A were shuffled to last down the backside but then followed live three wide cover from Winbak Dimensions that towed them to the head of the stretch.

Parker arrived first on the wire with Petes Elect A six wide across the track, with Sheer Brilliance going a huge mile to hang on for second. It was the fourth win of the year for the 6-year-old Holmes Hanover-Roses In Paris gelding who is trained by Gary Campbell for Darren Hancock of Australia.

Bruce Ranger posted a driving triple on the afternoon’s 12-race card, while John Stark, Jr. chalked up a double.

Tioga Downs continues live racing with an added race day on Wednesday, September 8, with a 1:30 p.m. post time. For more information visit www.tiogadowns.com.
