Real Amor gets third straight in Meadows pace; Palone wins six

Washington, PA — An upstart in the field of elite distaff pacers, Real Amor hardly was intimidated as she moved first over to victory — her third straight — in Monday’s $20,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap at The Meadows.

After trainer Brewer Adams claimed Real Amor for Adams Racing LLC for $10,000 on Jan. 22, she won her first start for her new connections in a conditioned event. Against tougher on Monday, she rolled from fourth for Mike Wilder and scored in 1:54.1, four lengths better than Shine N Shimmer. Blissful Romance rallied from last for show.

Real Amor, a 6-year-old daughter of Real Artist-Sweet Amor, extended her career bankroll to $215,215.

Dave Palone drove six winners — three for trainer Ron Burke — on the 15-race card while Wilder carved out a four-bagger.

Dover Downs
It was owner-trainer Bob Winkelman’s biggest win, turning Paradise Lost into ‘Paradise Found’ by winning the $20,000 Mares Open Pace at Dover Downs. Paradise Lost overtook front-pacing Jeremes Sweetheart in deep stretch while holding off fast-finishing Alexachase at the wire in 1:53.1 on Monday. Winkelman has been training one or two horses for the past three decades, first at the late Brandywine Raceway. He has brought Paradise Lost from a rejected green pacer he bought to a hard-hitting female pacer. Ron Pierce had to use race favorite Jeremes Sweetheart hard leaving from the outside in a select field of distaff pacers before taking the lead at the quarter. Heading to the half-mile Paradise Lost was first to move and driver Ross Wolfenden drove up to challenge for the lead. The front-pacing duo raced side-by-side the rest of the mile until Wolfenden urged Paradise Lost to the front by a head. Meanwhile Bret Brittingham was hustling Alexachase four-wide around the last turn and they closed with a rush to edge Jeremes Sweetheart by a head for second place. Paradise Lost is a 7-year-old daughter of Artsplace-Loving Ideal and now has won her first of the year to go with a second and three thirds, banking $24,450. In her career, she has 18 wins and $194,661 earnings. Corey Callahan, who leads all drivers in wins during 2014, finished the card with four wins. Eddie Davis, Jr. drove back-to-back winners for owners Norma Messick and trainer Tim Torbert. Allan Davis and Trace Tetrick also had a double.
